Who doesn't love pizza? We've compiled a list of vegetarian-friendly pizzas right here in Colombo!
Giovanni’s is hands down the best pizza place in town. Having tried all of their vegetarian options, the Four Cheese pizza (Rs. 1400) is by far the best one. You get Mozzarella, Gouda, Homemade Cheese and Blue Cheese as your four cheeses. It's also quite large, enough for 2 or 3 people. We also recommend the Tutta Verdura (Rs. 1350) which has 9 different veggies! It does taste a little too salty because of all the cheese, but in no way messes up the flavor. Kavindu (our other office vegetarian) also suggests the Margherita if you don't mind a bit of tomato!
Domenico's Popeye's Dream (Rs. 1400) comes with just mozzarella, spinach, mushrooms and white cheese. The entire pizza is dripping with cheese. The spinach is fresh and they've drizzled cream on top. If that doesn't make you drool, nothing will. Unless you're vegan.
We recommend the Vegetariano (9" Rs. 1200, 12" Rs. 1600) which include mushrooms, black olives, bell peppers, onions, artichokes & mozzarella. It's got all the veggies that make a great pizza, so give it a go. It's actually worth making the trip to Nawala.
Rocco's Pizza Di Patate (Rs. 1000 for 9" and Rs. 1350 for 14") with sliced potatoes, caramelized onions, rosemary, and mozzarella is one of their most popular vegetarian pizzas. If you're in the area, drop by for a slice, or three.
Pizza Hut's small pizza is still ridiculously small and while it might be enough for one person, I still don’t think it’s worth the money. However, their Medium and Large options will give you your money's worth. Their vegetarian options aren’t as flavoursome as their meat ones, except for the Paneer Tikka Masala (Rs. 1710 L), which is my personal favourite! That amount of cheese is bad for you but I don’t care. There's a generous amount of paneer and melted cheese in each slice giving you that strong Indian flavour without overshadowing the normal pizza flavour.
What stands out in the Belmio menu is the Make Your Own Pizza (appx. Rs. 1200 for a 9"). Starting with a Margherita base (Rs 650 for 9" and Rs 900 for 13") they give you a choice of 10 veggies to choose from, including artichoke, bell pepper, black olives, capsicum, eggplant, fresh tomato, jalapenos, mushrooms, onions, and spinach. In addition, you get ricotta, parmesan and/or blue cheese. Each topping has a separate rate for 9" and 13". With so much choice and quality, Belmio's is probably one of the best choices on this list!
The Vegetable Sarata (Rs. 900) is a Sri Lankan favourite because of its spiciness. It comes with a generous topping of mushroom, capsicum, onions, black olives and mozzarella.
Domino's Garden Fresh Delight (Rs. 1040 - M) is topped with fresh onions, crispy peppers, mushrooms, jalapenos, corn and herbs it's literally a vegetable garden in there. It tastes so good! Especially after you sprinkle some of their chili flakes and oregano.
The smallest stall in the food court of Majestic City has the biggest queue. Their Vegetable Pizza (Rs. 170) is just as good as anything you'd find there. One slice will fill you right up.
We loved their Pizza Buffalo Caprese (Rs. 1200) which comes with a tomato base, buffalo cheese with oregano and basil. However, with Harpo's it's best dine-in rather than order because they take ages to deliver, and you'd most likely get a cold pizza, which is the worst! Plus their locations (both in Nugegoda and their upscale spot at Bayleaf) are both pretty and worth visiting!
Oro has some great veggie pizzas. Their most popular is the DOC (Rs. 2000) which is fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. Although a bit on the pricier side, they serve some authentic Neapolitan (from Naples in Italy) pizzas. We also recommend the San Carlo (Rs. 2100) which is a white pizza with fresh mozzarella, grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, basil and white truffle oil.
There you have it. Some really good vegetarian pizzas for any pizza lover really, not just vegetarians.
