Pasta

Here's a list of places where you can find pasta — the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Here's a list of places where you can find pasta — the good, the bad, and the ugly. But basically, pasta in Colombo.

BreadTalk (Park Street)
No 33, Park Street, Colombo 02

The new BreadTalk on Park Street has a slightly different take than its other local branches. In addition to serving baked or fried goods, they have also introduced salads, sandwiches, pizza and pasta on the menu!

The Commons Coffee House
39A Flower Road, Colombo 7

Commons never fails with their pastas and burgers. We've tried them out multiple times, and would fully recommend the pasta menu. They don't skimp on the ingredients or the meats, and the food comes hot-hot and packed with flavour.

Park Street Trattoria
48, Park Street, Colombo 02

Tratorria is another charming space but it makes us sad because their pasta kept disappointing. With salt playing a predominant role in their flavourings, we gave up after trying them out a couple of times over the last year. As Kinita said, the palpability of our disappointment was inversely proportional to the palatability of the food. But, you get pasta here. And isn't that what this list is about?

Il Ponte (Hilton)
2, Sir Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo 01

Il Ponte at Hilton is one of the older Italian restaurants in Colombo. It may not be as popular as it was back in the day, but their food is still pretty solid all-round, although the setting could use some work.We especially love their lasagna which didn't skimp on the beef, the cheese, or the pasta itself. Quite impressive.

The Barnesbury Express
B204/2, Food Court, Liberty Plaza, Colombo 03

We're not huge fans of The Barnesbury, but we did like the pasta at The Barnesbury Express. Their creamy mushroom pasta delivers and that's all that matters. Just for the record, the main branch does serve a range of pastas as well.

Eat Italy (RIP)
273, Galle Road, Mount Lavinia.

Eat Italy is refreshingly authentic Italian which doesn't dress itself up to suit a Sri Lankan palate — so if you want more heat, you got to ask for it or sprinkle over some chillie. You get value for money and a very generous carbonara.

Thai Cuisine La Rambla
69 Hotel Road, Mount Lavinia

La Rambla is a pleasant little restaurant tucked away down Hotel Road in Mount Lavinia. If you're looking for a quiet, private meal around there which hasgood food and quick service, this is one we'd recommend. We haven't tried their pastas, but they've got it on the menu.

Cioconat Lounge
107 Barnes Place, Colombo 7

The portion of their pasta servings used to surprise me (I use the past tense because I haven't had it in the recent past) because of how large it was. Easily enough to feed two hungry adults, a friend and I used to share this between ourselves. While Cioco seems a bit confused with their deco and theme now (Italian? Arabic? What?), their pastas are satisfactory.

Dolce Italia
5, Skelton Road, Colombo 05

Run by an Italian duo, Dolce Italia down Police Park serves your predictably Italian cuisine, ranging from desserts to a few mains. While we do love the place (especially for their pastries), we have to admit that their pastas are rather inconsistent. It's disappointing on one day and not-disappointing on others. But mostly disappointing, tbh.

Echo (Cinnamon Grand)
Cinnamon Grand, Galle Road, Colombo 3

Very few restaurants do upscale Italian as consistently well as Echo does. They've got a whole selection of pasta (most of them freshly made in-house). We actually featured their Fettuccine all’Aragosta on our Colombo's Fantasy Menu article. Prices there aren't crazy either, and the ambience lends itself to anything from a business lunch to an evening date!

Scarlet Room (Colombo Courtyard)
32 Alfred House Avenue, Colombo 03.

The Scarlet Room isn't really the most authentic Italian restaurant in the city, but it makes for a hassle free, semi-fine dining experience. They also have a good selection of pastas and risottos.

FLOW (Hilton Colombo Residences)
200, Union Place, Colombo 2

With pasta on both their a la carte menu and in their buffets, Flow always has a selection going on. It's generally quite good, but prices are kind of steep.

The Cricket Club Cafe
12, Flower Road, Colombo 07

Surprisingly enough, the Cricket Club does a good pasta. We generally prefer getting their fish and chips or burgers while we're there, but their pastas are satisfactory too - and inexpensive. You can get a full plate for under Rs. 1000.

The Bayleaf
79, Gregory's Road, Colombo 07.

You can't go wrong with Bayleaf, really, and that makes for a comfortable choice when making decisions on where to go for a meal. Whether it's pizza, pasta or just tiramisu, you can find pretty good renditions of a fair deal of Italian fare here. Their Tagliatelle Verdi con Proscuitto also made it on to our Fantasy Menu.

Santoré Bistro Italiano
45 Marcus Fernando Mavatha, Colombo 7

It's one of Colombo's better options for Italian fare, serving up stellar pizza and a range of pasta. They are relatively new to the scene, but they've built a good reputation over the years. We generally prefer their pizzas to their pasta, but it's still good, authentic stuff.

Pranzo (Waters Edge)
316, Polduwa Rd, Ethul Kotte Road, Battaramulla

Pranzo is relatively new, and has a beautiful setting. The food can be a little pricey, but we strongly recommend their prawn ravioli!

Il Cielo
The Goldblock, 5th Floor, 101/11 Hunupitiya Lake Road, Colombo 2, Sri Lanka

We didn't quite enjoy our experience at Il Cielo, but perhaps they've gotten better in time. They do have a selection of pasta however, and their views are amazing.

Cafe Shaze
65, Thimbirigasaya, Colombo 5

Café Shaze is one of Colombo’s many café/restaurant/lounge options, this time in the increasingly bustling neighborhood of Thimbirigasyaya. The café is actually quite big, they do some good Western dishes and pastas, and the prices are on par with most cafes in the city.

To be fair, most of these options serve up well-executed pasta, unlike good old Sesto Senso. We've also got a list of Italian restaurants if that's what you're looking for. Buon appetito!

I had the 'Curry Seafood Pasta' of Pranzo lately and asked them to minus curry. The chunks of seafood melt in your mouth as you make orgasmic sounds. It tasted absolutely beautiful! ♡
