It's not easy to make a good cheesecake but there are few gems in Colombo that have perfected this delicious food of the Gods. Here they are.
This is hands down the best place for some delicious Blueberry Cheesecake (Rs. 380). You can't find a better cheesecake anywhere, and certainly not for this price. I have never had so many slices of cheesecake from one place before. You simply cannot get enough of their rich and fluffy cheesecake with that light and buttery biscuit base. We have heard that out of towners have come all the way for their cheesecake too and we're not surprised at all. They also have Strawberry Cheesecake (Rs. 380) as well. Go right now and grab a slice. You might find me there too.
Butter Boutique took the cake game to a whole new level. Starting small from the Good Market, they now have expanded into an all-out cafe serving a delicious range of cakes, some of which are their own creations. Their Cookie Dough Cheesecake (Rs. 550) definitely makes our list. It's a pretty hefty slice with a thick cookie dough base and a rich and creamy cheesecake filling topped off with a swirl of whipped cream and a small cookie. It's quite sweet because it's cookie dough and cheesecake, but that's not a bad thing. However, if you want the classic cheesecake they do have Blueberry Cheesecake (Rs. 580) as well, which is pretty fantastic. Let's not forget the famous Japanese Cheesecake (Rs. 500) which is a lighter take on the average cheesecake.
Jagro does a fantastic job with their cakes and bakes. I have not heard a single bad thing about The Raspberry Cheesecake (Rs. 650) from anyone who has tried it. It certainly lives up to the hype. The cheesecake itself is sour but the sweetness of raspberry the balances it out perfectly. It is certainly more expensive than your average cheesecake but you will not be disappointed.
This list would not be complete without Bakes By Bella. Their Oreo Cheesecake (Rs. 600) is a delicious treat with a crushed Oreo base and a rich and creamy cream cheese filling topped off with more Oreos and whipped cream. We would have preferred the filling to be less sweet in order to balance out the sweetness of the Oreos. Other than that, it is well worth your money and leaves you wanting more.
TGI Friday's is not famous for their dessert, although they should be. Their Cheesecake (Rs. 1050) is definitely the most expensive one on this list but it was insanely good. It was a massive slice of cheesy goodness, with a slight caramel undertone. If you're craving it, we recommend you try this.
Mitsi's Blueberry Cheesecake (Rs. 450) is an incredibly creamy slice with a delicious layer of blueberry coulis for you to devour. The slices are quite big and well worth the price. They also have Double Chocolate Cheesecake and Brownie Cheesecake for all the chocoholics.
The Passion Fruit Cheesecake (Rs 450) at The Embazzy is incredible. It's not very sweet, but has a fluffy, cheesy filling while the citric taste of the coulis helps to balance out the sweet and sour flavors perfectly. Even if you're not the biggest sweet tooth, this is a good dessert that you can try out.
PS: We've only included ready-made cakes available at stores, so homebakers haven't made it on.
Tastea is a tiny new coffee shop down Duplication Road. Even though they don't have much of a food menu yet, they look promising.
