Bo Sevana

High Level Road, Nugegoda


All in all it was a decent and quite satisfying meal. If you are looking for a cheap, decent place to get your lunchtime fix, we recommend making the trip.



Following a recommendation from Shru's grandmother, we ferreted out Bo Sevana, a hole in the wall bath kade in Nugegoda. It's easy to miss, so take note - a little beyond Commercial Credit, towards Maharagama, is where the small kade lies, a slightly frayed but cheerful place manned by a handful of amiable aunties.

The novel feature here is that Bo Sevana actually offer two sizes of lunch: small and large. We tried the small in hopes of averting the usually inevitable rice mountain, but honestly it was quite generous. If you have a big appetite or are just really hungry, I suppose get the large - judging by the size of the small, this must be enormous. The rice comes with four curries (we had pol sambol, kekiri, fried karawila and parippu) together with a fried chili, an egg (optional) and either chicken or fish according to what you prefer (total Rs. 125)

The curries weren’t too oily; in fact everything seemed quite healthily cooked. The only thing missing was the customary papadam, but the fried chili made a good substitute.

All in all this is a decent and farily satisfying meal. Healthier than your average curry, and quite tasty. If you're looking for a cheap, decent place to get your lunchtime fix in the area, a very worthy option.

TIP

You can eat in if desired - there's a small back room with tables and chairs. Take away is recommended.

Directions

On the High Level Road, go across the Nugegoda flyover, heading out of town. Bo Sevana is a tiny spot on the right, about 20 meters past the Jambugasmulla Road junction.
