If you're looking for consistency, tres leches and a dollhouse-like atmosphere, Butter Boutique is the place you should head over to. Having opened shop just over a year ago, the little bakery/coffee shop is laden with decadent and aromatic delights.
Butter Boutique's service has improved, with the staff more helpful and friendly than they used to be. They've not changed things around much and have the same flowery motif going on. It was close to Christmas time when we dropped in, so it was aptly decorated with a little gingerbread house near the entrance and a Christmas tree somewhere in the centre.
We're never disappointed with their tres leches; it even got featured in one of our YAMU Loves pieces! This milk-drenched, cream topped cake at Rs. 450 a slice is solid comfort food when you need it.
The same goes for their Chai Latte (Rs. 550). It's expensive for a cup, but it's beautifully dusted with a layer of spice and the aroma wafting off it makes this the perfect rainy day drink. Having tried their coffees in our previous review, we went for the Iced Caramel (Rs. 500). Slightly watery, lacking in sweetness, and overall just so-so, I wouldn't really recommend this.
The Peanut Butter Caramel Cake Slice (Rs. 450) gave us our money's worth. The thick layers of peanut butter and caramel sandwiched between deliciously dense and dark chocolate cake are difficult to finish up on your own: it's that decadent and heavy. I found the frosting slightly too sweet for my liking, but I can see my sugar-loving friends digging it.
If you want a hint of the Mediterranean, give the Arabian Knights (Rs. 500) a try. The aroma and flavour of rose essence and pistachio are distinct in this slice, basically competing with each other. Once again, I found the frosting to be way too sweet, but the selling point of this cake is definitely its visual appeal: cream and rose with hints of green from the pistachio.
With its delicate decals and confections, Butter Boutique has managed to maintain its fairytale-esque atmosphere over the last year. They're definitely one of the places we'd recommend for your cakes and coffees for the sheer quality and consistency they manage to offer, though we feel their stuff has gotten sweeter since they opened shop. Main selling point? Their coffee is some of the best in the city.
Butter Boutique makes rich, delicious cakes and some of Colombo's best coffee. Their new location on Rosmead Place is much bigger so you more people can sit down and enjoy.
For delicious lattes and tres leches.
Butter Boutique's new outlet is a great addition to Colombo's baking scene. I don't think anyone really saw it coming, but they've raised bar for coffee in town as well. Whether you're a fan of coffee or desserts, BB is more than worth a visit.
Butter Boutique has moved now! They're officially setting up shop at Rosmead Place so we went to check them out.
