Caffe Michelangelo

Thin crust, wood-fired pizza, with toppings like Pol Sambol. Michaelangelo is good for delivery, if you're really patient.



Cafe Michaelangelo does an interesting take on wood fired pizzas. We wouldn't really call it authentic, more like Sri Lankanized wood fired pizzas, but it tastes pretty darn good.

The Pizzas

Cafe Michaelangelo is not really a new entrant to local pizza scene, but with all the new additions, we felt it was time to give them another go. Michaelangelo's has some interesting, local influenced dishes like the beef pethi, HBC pizza and pol sambol pizza. Prices are also not too steep with a large 12' pizzas priced between Rs. 1200 - Rs. 1850.


One pizza that immediately caught our attention was the hot butter cuttlefish pizza (Rs. 1650). This seemed like a brilliant idea since y'know, who doesn't love a good HBC? And to our delight it tasted brilliant. The best way to describe it is as a really good HBC on a thin crust pizza with mozzarella. Yeah just let that sink in for a bit - hot butter cuttlefish with cheese.


For a more mainstream option we went with the pepperoni (Rs. 1700) which was also pretty good. One thing we have to commend Cafe Michaelangelo on, is the addition of ample amounts of mozzarella in all their pizzas which really adds a nice creaminess. The pepperoni itself was flavoursome with just a hint of spice to it, which helped the balance.


Finally, we also tried out their lamb Gracia (Rs. 1800). We'd say this one was the only one that lacked a bit of a wow factor, and for the slightly higher price we expected a bit more. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, but compared to the one that we tried from Harpo's, this one falls short.

Conclusion

While they might not be the most authentic wood fired pizzas in town, we still feel Cafe Michaelangelo does some pretty yummy pizzas.

While rumours of Caffe Michaelangelo's origins are spiced with all the makings of an Italian soap opera (opened by the former lover of the now defunct Regina Margherita), their pizzas, also, live up to the spicy hype.

සිංහල ඔබ ෆ්රැන්චයිස් පිට්සා එකකට කැමති නැත්නම්, ඒ කියන්නේ ඩොමිනොස් ගේ තද කට්ට තියෙන තෙල් බේරෙන පයි එකක් හරි පිට්සා හට් එකේ තද, හැපෙන පිට්සා වලට හරි අකමැතිනම්, තවත් විකල්ප පිට්සා සේවා කිහිපයක් තියෙනවා. ෆ්රැන්චයිස් නොවන පිට්සා රජ තුන්කට්ටුව තමයි පැරණි හාර්පෝ’ස් , තරුණ රොකෝ’ස් සහ කැෆේ මයිකල්ආන්ජිලෝ.
