For candy enthusiasts, Candy Planet in Battaramulla is the holy grail - not only is it affordable but you will find every imaginable type of candy there. It is probably as close as we Sri Lankans will ever get to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
Variety
Whether it's long sugary strips of sour candy, huge lollipops, giant kisses, flavoured gummy bears, rabbit-shaped marshmallows, jawbreakers, tubes that you can squeeze and eat gel-like candy out of, rolls of bubblegum that you can unroll and break off like cellotape, Harry Potter themed wizard world candy, Spongebob's krabby patty candy, Willy Wonka's fantastical candy - you will find it all here.
Service
Kaushal, who runs the place, was highly amused by my running around the store, occasionally squealing in excitement over some amazing piece of candy. He's super friendly and will take you on a tour through all the different, crazy kinds of candy in the store if you ask.
The gummy bears are one of the most popular purchases and they come in a large variety of flavours. Almost all the candy in the store has been imported from the United States - there is a section of the gummy bears that is specially imported from Turkey, to appease the candy lovers who are concerned about Halal gelatin.
Price
M&Ms and Chocolate Rocks are also extremely popular with Candy Planet customers. The gummy bears are generally Rs. 350 for 100g and the sour strips cost Rs. 450 for 100g - but buying 100g isn't a must, half of that for half the price is enough to munch on when in the mood for something sweet or sour. The other types of candy go for as low as Rs. 80 to Rs. 150. If you want, you can get a mix of all the flavours of a type of candy, like an assortment of orange and mango gummy bears and worms for example - instead of just one flavour. Boring people can also opt for classic Hershey's and Cadbury's also available at the store.
Here are some pictures to take you through Candy Planet.
The store is colourful and the candy is wacky and whimsical - an ideal spot to take your kids out to, but really, the place is enough to bring the kid out in just about anybody.
TIP
Try not to fall over yourself from excitement.

Wait aren't you guys supposed to be giving the best the town has to offer? Have you'll been to Yum Yum on Kawdana Road Dehiwela? Your review shows 350 - 100g (candy Planet) Rs. 260 - 100g (Yum Yum) …

Soon, diabeetus.

We will definitely check out Yum Yum, thank you

As a physician, I think making a statement like "diabetes is worth it" is really irresponsible of you Yamu. Nothing is worth having diabetes. One in five adults has either diabetes or pre-diabetes and one-third of those with diabetes are undiagnosed in Sri Lanka. This has startling implications for the spread of the disease here.
Diabetes can adversely affect almost every organ in your body - from your brain cells to your liver. Responsible for a staggering number of amputations, diabetes has also been known to lead to impaired vision and heart attacks. It's a frightening disease, made even more so by the fact that its incidence in Sri Lanka seems to be increasing. Please be more responsible in your advertising.

@maya - It's only a review and someone felt about going to the shop. I really don't think anyone takes someone's random advice about diabetes being worth it. Seriously!!! Take a chill pill. (You could probabaly buy these there)
SLjudge
Candy Planet should consider opening an outlet in Colombo to make it convenient for the people there as we all know, people in Colombo ought to buy more than people in Battaramulla……
JC34
SLjudge is right, they should open an outlet in Colombo then there will be a competition between Candy Planet and Yum Yum- so in the end it will benefit the customers as both shops would try to convince more and more customers to come to their shop (they may even consider lowering the prices a bit)

@maya - take it easy … Its just a review…and a good light hearted one at that… Its not like yamu is cursing all of us with diabetes. Keep up the great work chaps at yamu.

sounds like @Maya needs some sugar…

As a psychiatrist I think making a statement like: "Maya is suffering from a false sense of grandeur" is warranted . Get over yourself! Yamu's a food blog. Reviewing a store selling candy and putting a journalistic spin on it does not necessarily mean that they acted irresponsibly / or promoted the spread of diabetes in Sri Lanka; for as mentioned above, nobody reading that statement you highlighted is going to take it seriously in this context.
JMendis
Having lived with one of the Yamu founders for a year, I can confirm that his life goal is to increase the spread of diabetes in Sri Lanka. How else did I put on like 12kg that year?! Damn you, Indi.

"Yum Yum Fine Foods" in Dehiwala sells a wide range of gummies and chocolate balls and a few imported toffees only but the prices are lower when compared to Candy Planet and staff service is satisfactory. However, the candy I bought from Yum Yum (sour belts and strawberry shaped gummies for 260/100g) tasted cheap and didn't have bright colours like Haribo candy product…
Ravanthika
Waiting to come there

Actually yum yum has a more refined collection at a cheaper price. Worthy stuff.

DIABETES IS WORTH IT? Are you *&%#@ crazy? Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the world. It makes people suffer like being in hell. People with diabetes can go blind due to their illness. They then have to walk about using a walker. A diabetes sufferer can have their extremities amputated due to their illness. I have heard of people who have had their toes, or part of their leg, or their foot amputated due to this dreadful disease. Insulin dependent diabetics are dependent on their family members or care givers to give them their "JAB" every day. People whose family members are afraid to do this, are dependent on medical personnel like nurses to do so! (every day!) They feel faint when they don't eat at a particular time. As I said, a slight wound can turn into a nightmare of hospitalizations, monitoring and losing of life or limb!
