Of Colombo’s 5 star hotel pools we are partial to the one at Cinnamon Lakeside. It’s probably the most recently refurbished of the big hotel pools and with its Beira-side views, deep blue tinge, and innovative U-shape it makes for better swimming than your average hotel pool.

Best pool in Colombo but way too expensive. Deep end not that deep, may be 8 feet.

Since this only talks about the pool I will try to mention only that.
While I know that YAMU is honest and would never 'doctor' any pics, the ones here are just too flattering. The pool is pretty basic. If you have seen some of the amazing things that are happening with other five stars in South Asia with the waterfalls, amazing lush landscaping and ambient music, this place begins to feel a bit more like the Marriott Express off the West Palm Beach Freeway. The view is super basic. I had seen some 'floating temple' on a lake at Vesak and thought that was the kind of view we would see. It actually looks more like the industrial end of town. (That still beats half the rooms which face the parking lot.)
A five star to me means that a hotel is either sleek and ultra modern or it is a faded colonial beauty. This hotel feels like neither of those. It feels somewhere in the middle, like the 1970s.
During the three days that we were there, most of my pool companions were slightly sour faced British pensioners who wanted to be left in peace with their Kindle. Expect black socks pulled up to the knees and pale pasty grandpa doing cannon balls. This is not chic central.
Crows circled constantly in an attempt to get food. They drink right from the pool. I felt a bit like Tippi Hedren in 'The Birds'.
I was very happy with the service at the pool which was attentive and yet not intrusive. This hotel is one of the few places in Colombo about which I can't berate service.
All things considered, I would say that you are NUTS if you pay rs. 1200 just for a swim here. I know that it is out of the way, but the Clarion Hotel in Kiribathgoda i THINK charges only rs. 400 and they have a nice atmosphere with the same teak loungers, better and lusher landscaping and decent food.
I implore Sri Lankans to stop paying such outrageous fees for such basic hotels. Traders in KLCC, just next door to us, has an amazing pool among other things that the Lake doesn't:

and it costs about $47 less per night. Prices in Colombo will never get into line with reality until Colombars do.

They increased entrance fee! 2500 LKR!
Sandun Dhammika
It's up to them to increase their price since this is an open market.
But still people buy tickets ? What is the differentiation experience there?
* Wave pool ?
* large pool with good deep end ?
* Open sea water experience ?
May be people don't acknowledge about other cheap places with quality clean water experience.
