Crepe Runner (Street Rush)

293, Galle Rd, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia

Crepe Runner has claimed a spot down Street Rush, and does what they do best - crepes.

After spending a couple of years driving their food truck down Marine Drive, Crepe Runner has branched out its second spot in Street Rush. As the name suggests, crepes are their speciality, and they do it so darn well. Owing to the pleasure of them having an outlet with proper seating space, we were quite excited to drop by.

Crepes

Crepe Runner does both sweet and savoury crepes, and they don't skim on the fillings, which is one of the many things we love about them. Altogether, they have over 25 kinds of fillings that you can pair with your crepe.

Out of the lot, we tried three - The Crunch (Rs. 400), Nutella - Strawberry Crunch Combo (Rs. 430) and Beef Steak (Rs. 400).

All three of them share the same excellent crepe. Presenting a nice canary yellow surface, these blankets of crepe are touched with pale gold colour and has the softest, yet perfect crisp to the bite. The edges are beautifully ruffled up, and the fillings are quite literally spilling out through its enclosure.

The Nutella - Strawberry Crunch Combo featured everything it promised on the title - a heap of Nutella, chunks of fresh strawberry and lots and lots of smashed up cashew nuts. It's pure chocolatey, nutty, and fruity bliss!
The Crunch had an abundance of chopped up almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios and walnuts, all basked in the glory of Nutella.

This one is a classic beefy treat! A crepe stuffed with cubes of beef smothered with a blend of spices and herbs, The Beef Steak also had a cheesy undertone. The beef itself was well tendered up, chewy, and the beefy flavour wasn't overpowered by the spices/herbs. It's one filling crepe you've got there.

Drinks

The drinks menu at Crepe Runner is comprised of a range of milkshakes and mojitos. We got the Passion Fruit Mojito (Rs. 250) and Oreo Milkshake (Rs. 350).

Limey, minty and ravished with passion fruity goodness, the mojito had a nice fizz going on. After gulping down so much Nutella, it does a superb job in refreshing the palate.

The Oreo Milkshake was brilliant too. Perfectly Oreo-y, smooth in texture and absolutely flavoursome.

Ambience & Service

As mentioned previously, they've rented out a stall in Street Rush and shares the dining space at the premises. For those of you who don't know what Street Rush is, it's a food court-like establishment in Mount Lavinia, and Crepe Runner lies right next to Urban Eatery, which is another superb food joint we recently came across.

The guys manning the counter is quick on their feet, and do not hesitate to make recommendations if you need any. We got our crepes and drinks within around 20 minutes.

Conclusion

A place dedicated to nothing else but whipping up some brilliant crepes - that's what Crepe Runner is. We've always liked their crepes, and we are super glad they're expanding. If Mount Lavinia is too far away for you, take a stroll down Marine Drive (opposite OZO) in the evening, and you'll be able to grab their crepes off the food truck.
