If you're working around Slave Island or Fort, Curry Much does a decent buth packet with better packaging.

Currymuch (alternately, Curry Much) is a buth kade off Staple Street in Slave Island. It's mostly take-away and mostly good. It used to be quite modern and cutting edge, but not so much anymore. Now it's basically an average buth kade with better packaging.

When it started it was, frankly, revolutionary. Modern branding and cooking around a buth packet? Amaze. Since then, however, places like Achcharu Kade have also entered the scene (though they only do orders now) and Curry Much has declined. Not to say that it's bad, but it used to be better than your average buth kade. Now - food wise - it's about average.

The Food

This is the chicken roast paan sandwich (Rs. 120) above. It's quite spicy (actually, it's called the 'isspicey chicken') and has a good crunch of roast paan. It's a simple dish but they haven't really taken it beyond the usual. This is usually a breakfast dish and they also do kiribath and string hoppers in the morning.

But it's their lunch rice and curry (Rs. 200 for chicken) that this place is known for. You could theoretically eat there but it's mostly an office crowd coming for take-away. When they first started they were known for a different take on the buth packet (boneless chicken, less oil than usually), which they've departed from a bit.

This was basically an ordinary buth packet, chicken, tempered potatoes, mallum, beans and purippu. It was a good buth packet, but nothing pushing the envelope here.

Location & Service

The location is quite basic, maybe two perches of shopfront and a kitchen to the back. What people usually do is just order their buth packets or breakfast and bounce. The staff is fast and responsive through what is admittedly a simple operation.

Conclusion

If you're working around Slave Island or Fort, Curry Much does a decent buth packet with better packaging.

TIP

They also serve breakfast. Not open for dinner.

New and improved Currymuch serving a decent rice pack with a killer prawn curry.

Currymuch isn't really your average kade. Bright, clean and manned by excellent, friendly staff, CM offers the healthier, feel-good alternative to the average buth packet. Serving a rotation of rice-based lunches (different meals on different days, only one of which is available per day), you can pop into to the little store on Staple St to procure a box of rice for just Rs. 200
