Delifrance is known already as the expensive French franchise inside ODEL, but now they've got their own space down Duplication Road. It's actually pretty nice, and the sandwiches still taste great.
Like Subway and Paan Paan, Delifrance does some quality sandwiches with a variety of fillings for you to pick from - except these guys are more expensive than both (if you get a drink too, about Rs. 1400 for one person). It's kind of self-service like other sandwich bars, and you need to specifically ask the person at the counter if you want more fillings than the basic in your order.
We got a chicken sandwich ('Le Paris') for Rs. 800 - very filling, with plenty of tender chicken, we particularly enjoyed how crunchy and fresh the veggies were. We liked our sandwich cold, fresh from the fridge, but you can get yours microwaved if you want.
Our cookie milkshake was plain amazing, though at the uncomfortable price of Rs. 380. It's delicious with cookie flakes all throughout and can actually fill you up, and personally, was better than eating a real cookie. We also tried the 'Pain au chocolat' (Rs. 180) which was a buttery soft pastry with very sweet bits of melted chocolate in it.
The restaurant itself is very pleasant to sit in. It's an A/Ced glass cocoon in the middle of a busy street, with a long wooden floor, and comfy regular seats and sofas. Nearby are Chesa Swiss and Manhattan Fish Market, and a few feet away is Bars Cafe, so it's a pretty happening square here at the Deal Place - Duplication Road junction.
Delifrance serves quality food in a great location, at a more-than-your-average-cafe price. So if you're still a loyal fan of their sandwiches, they're more easily accessible now in Kollupitiya.
Deal Place from Galle Road is right opposite Makeen Bookstore, go right in to Duplication Road and it's on your right. Delifrance is in the same building as Bars Cafe, next to Manhattan Fish Market, opposite Chesa Swiss.
