When Gonuts with Donuts started off they were all the craze. Now many years down the line, the hype has died down, their prices have gone up, but they're still pretty decent.
*Relocated to Battaramulla.
For over a decade, Gonuts With Donuts has been a go-to spot for many Colombars to satisfy their doughnut cravings. They started off with a huge buzz, and like most of the things in the world, time has taken an effect on them - the hype is down now, prices are slightly up, but still it's the only doughnut dedicated spot in Colombo.
Seems like Gonuts With Donuts is back to basics now. They've got only eight doughnuts divided into premium and regular categories, but no candy doughnuts, savory doughnuts or Chibos (hot dogs made of doughnut bread with different fillings) anymore. Steering away from those three is a wise choice really, because none of them were good enough to make a quality impression.
The premium doughnuts are priced at Rs. 185, while the regular ones are Rs. 175 each. We ordered an assortment box of six - three doughnuts from each category.
The packaging hasn't changed at all - it's still the same cardboard box from four years ago, red, yellow and brown doughnut-like pictures on a white background.
I know I should have thought this through before taking the pictures - to arrange these six doughnuts on separate plates based on their category, but sadly I didn't realize it until now. So under the pictures, I have mentioned the category that each doughnut comes from.
So the base of every doughnut is the same - a sweet bun with a slightly crispy exterior, and a soft, puffy middle. If I had to pick a favorite out of this lot, I'd say it's the Butterscotch doughnut, because it was basically an explosion of butterscotch flavor, while the bits of crispy caramel on top added a nutty boost.
Topped with a layer of whipped cream, and garnished with bits of cherry and chocolate shavings, the Black Forest doughnut was alright, but kinda too sweet for our liking. It also had a slathering of chocolate cream filling in the middle, to help with the whole 'black forest' title.
The Sugar doughnut was not bad, but would have been better if it was garnished with sugar, instead of icing sugar.
Aside from the Glazed doughnut, which is basically a doughnut topped off with a lapyer of icing and sprinkles, we liked the other two - Choconut and Chocolate Surprise.
The chocolate surprise was well stuffed with a surprising amount of lava-like melted chocolate that burst with flavors with each bite, while the choconut had a generous layer of chocolate and plenty of peanuts to go around. In terms of flavor, these two have lived up to their names as long as I can remember, but back then, they were bigger and fluffier.
The drive-through restaurant down Kynsey road is the only place that you can grab these doughnuts, plus they deliver. We used the takeout option this time, and it took like 5 minutes for them to place the doughnuts neatly into a box.
Gonuts with Donuts is not half bad, because they do some pretty good doughnuts for a decent fare. We should be thankful that they exist, because even after all this time they're still a reliable choice in comparison to cake-like, rock-hard doughnuts that you can get from certain homebakers/bakeries.

Gonuts is a donut chain in Sri Lanka which used to be awesome and is still pretty good. Our favorite is the hot pink love and their savory donuts are not bad either. Each donut is Rs. 95, Rs. 550 for a six pack. They also do delivery.

Frozen is a 'gourmet' ice cream place at Urban Kitchen.…
I ordered a six-pack donuts it comes to 670 with delivery. The delivery was quick, and the taste was fine.
Would highly recommend the Chocolate Surprise, Belgian Chocolate Surprise or my personal favourite: Choco Filled Benne :)
Love this place!!! We always order the nine-pack. Delivery is prompt and the donuts never fail to satisfy a sweet craving. Stick away from the cream donuts though as the cream isn't quality cream. Belgium Chocolate Mousse is my favourite!!
Do they have outlet near Mt. Lavina? Do they have a place to sit and eat in their castle street outlet?
The ceebos seems to be made of a hot dog bun deep fried. Its too oily for my liking - a heart attack warped in a foil. The Savory doughnuts are GREAT!!
Ordered selection of Belgium Chocolate Mousse, Choco Filled Bene and Chicken and Cheese for an office treat about a month ago. While the sweet donuts were ok(not great), the Chicken and Cheese donuts were so bad. They had used sausages instead of real chicken and the cheese was watery. Can't really call it cheese… And all their donuts have this greasy oily taste.
There will always be criticisms but on the whole this place is still amazing. Just stick with sweet donuts. They are the best. I only ever ordered for delivery and twice on stormy nights. Donuts always survived the trip without any damage.
Those days we used to order for our office but now we are pretty disappointed with the amount of oilcontain available and seems like its not healthy for us. We better not go with gonuts and now they re delivery is also not up to standard.
Choco Nut, Belgium Chocolate Mousse & Tandoori Chicken are the best value for money in their menu. Chibos sucks, big time!
You want a good doughnut? Try the one at Taste of Asia at World Trade Centre! I know! Hard to believe. But its really good! Or goodies! If you want old school and vintage, P&S
i tried this today. both doughnuts and chibos. both tasted good. yes get the ones with the filling. the chibo's were soft and tasted good but with small filling, but it's alright. satisfied. can recommend.
I will never ever order or recommend this place. I ordered 6 pack chibos for my visitor and it comes Rs.1,100/- odd. I ordered around 3.00 pm and they promised to deliver by 5.00 pm. I called them around 5.30 pm and gave rider's no. 0766068131. I tried to contact this no but no answer so I called back to main line and they asked me to wait for 10 mins. Since order is getting late I placed two orders in 20 mins gap at KFC and they delivered both orders within 20 mins of placing the order. GO NUTS NEVER DELIVERED THE ORDER. POOR SERVICE. THEY PROVED THEY ARE NUTS.
NEGATiVE RATINGS. POOR SERVICE. THEY NEVER DELIVER MY ORDER. THEY JUST PROVED THEY ARE NUTS. I placed an order for 6 packs chibo which comes to around Rs.1,100/- with delivery charges. I placed the order around 3.00 pm and they said they can deliver at 5.00 pm so I was ok for that since my visitors are coming at 5.30 pm. Didn't not receive so I called them at 5.30 pm to check and they gave the rider's phone no (0766068131). I called his no and no answer so I called back them and they will check and inform me. Meantime, I placed an order from KFC for my visitors and they delivered within 20 mins. Again I called this GoNUTS and they asked me wait for another 10 mins. So I placed another order KFC and again they delivered within 20 mins. These NUTS or GoNUTS never delivered the order and never informed me that they can't deliver it.
