Nai Mirisa.

Nai Mirisa is a fairly new buth kadey in Nugegoda. However, before it was a buth kadey, it was known as CP’s Grill and had some of the best Chicken Cheese Kottu we’ve ever had. We are still mourning its demise.

Nevertheless, times are changing and it’s time for us to move on. Here are our impressions on Nai Mirisa.

The Food

Like everywhere else, the process is pretty straight forward. You go in, you choose your base (Rice, Fried Rice, Yellow Rice) and then proceed with choosing your preferred protein and four curries from the mini spread to accompany it.

However, their stuff runs out so fast. We were there by 1 pm, and they had already run out of fried rice and pork. Sigh.

Featured here is the Chicken Rice and Curry (Rs.230). The rice itself was nice and fluffy, but, apart from that, nothing really stood out. With enough spicy kicks, the chicken was fine, but, it wasn’t necessarily praiseworthy. The only part we actually pretty happy about was the beetroot curry. Creamy and cooked to perfection, it was a delight in comparison to other elements on the plate.

Moving on to the Fish Rice and Curry (Rs. 210). The fish itself was cooked quite well, lots of pepper, lots of spice with a slight tinge of goraka. However, the pol sambol lacked that tanginess and spiciness – which is basically what we expect in a solid pol sambol. The good thing about getting food from here is that they give each packet a salty, deep-fried karalla fish, a giant piece of papadam and of course, half a teaspoon of nai miris sauce – which strangely tasted more like grated coconut and lime than nai miris. Oh well.

Lastly, we have the Yellow Chicken Rice (Rs. 230). It was barely yellow and had no seasoning- pretty much like the white rice. The pumpkin curry was our favourite part of this plate. With strong hints of koththamalli, this was the weirdest (in a good way) pumpkin curry I’ve ever had. The batu moju, however, lacked that acute sweetness that most batu mojus have and we genuinely missed it.

Service

In terms of service, we can’t really complain. Whilst not being particularly friendly, they managed to deliver the food as soon as we had finished ordering.

Ambience

As for ambience, they were alright. With upright wooden furniture and a pretty clean sink, we couldn’t really complain. However, we suggest sitting somewhere away from the door because seeing litter outside whilst trying to get your food on isn’t particularly ideal tbh.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Nai Mirisa is alright. It might not be the best rice and curry spot in Colombo, but our meal here wasn’t all that bad. Drop by if you are around.
