The Paan Paan bakery has opened up a new outlet on Alfred House Gardens, featuring a new and rather good sandwich bar. The shop includes a similar range of breads and muffins to the Lorensz Rd branch but has the advantage of being better located and offering a generally more pleasant shopping experience - the space is larger, brighter and generally just a lot nicer. And, of course, they have sandwiches.
There are a range of breads, fillings and sauces to choose from and all sandwich paraphernalia is spread out Subway style. Ordering is convenient as they provide a small checklist where you can tick your choice of bread, filling, accompaniments and sauces. This is a touch more modern than ordering the over the counter and having to repeat your orders.
My choice was roast beef in a french baguette with all accompaniments and all sauces, and a chicken salad submarine with onions and Paan Paan rosemary mustard sauce. The french baguette was crispy as it should be and the roast beef was excellent too. The chicken salad was juicy and well marinated. The bread I opted for this was regular white which is the basic submarine bread only slighty crispy on top.
Overall the sandwiches are very good. With a wide range of choices of fillings and accompaniments, you can't go wrong. The damage to your wallet also isn't that bad either: Rs. 385 to 450 plus Rs. 75 extra for cheese.
Try the excellent almond milk - chilled almond flavoured milk with natural almond pieces and a taste of saffron, much like a kulfi.
