Park Street Mews Restaurant

50/1 Park Street, Colombo 2

Park Street Mews Restaurant is one of those select few that have managed to remain relevant and maintain high standards throughout the years. They haven't changed much at all, but we're fine with that since the food is excellent, the service is fast and the unorthodox setting is still quite chic.

The Park Street Mews Restaurant has food that looks amazing and tastes great, all in a happening location. Probably the most modern of Colombo restaurants.

As the signature restaurant for the now vibrant Park Street Mews (a strip with shops, a bar, events, etc), the PSM Restaurant is already blessed with a great location. On our past visit the food didn't measure up, but on our most recent visit it really really did.

The Food

Park Street Mews Deep Fried Camembert Park Street Mews Deep Fried Camembert

Park Street always had amazing plating, as you can see from the deep fried camembert (Rs. 650) above. Now the plating matches up with really interesting and happy tastes. The camembert pictured here is warm and oozy and matches up nicely with the sweet of the walnut, apples and applesauce. It looks beautiful and tastes good, which is basically perfect.

Chick Pea Salad Chick Pea Salad

We tried another appetizer, the chick pea salad (Rs. 500) which was also excellent. Beautifully presented with curly onion rings on top and feta, tomato and microgreens spread throughout. The chunks of feta were big and flavorful and the whole thing was really well seasoned and tasty.

Slow cooked pork with anise Slow cooked pork with anise

For a main we tried the slow cooked soy and anise pork (Rs. 1,400). Their mains aren't cheap, but we think this is because all the meat is imported. It's certainly good. The pork was meltingly soft and, again, beautifully presented with roasted beets, mashed potatoes, carrots and two dipping options, an anise sauce and applesauce. Reminded me of those dishes they call 'wonderfully' rustic on MasterChef. A real treat, and generous portions.

Location

The Park Street location can't be beat. This small cobblestone path is one of the only walking/shopping/dining areas in the city. They've actually divided the original Park Street restaurant into this and the bar Curve and there are now shops and almost constant events down the strip. When we went they were hosting the Colombo Art Biennale just there.

The restaurant itself is decorated in a white-washed IKEA style and gets plenty of natural light. There's beanbag seating in the center and regular tables around.

Service

The service was had was beyond excellent, but we think they recognized us from YAMU. The staff is well trained and the overall management is present at all of their various locations so the standards stay high. The staff we've interacted with are genuinely nice, but they also know the menu and can answer questions, which is actually the next level towards professional rather than merely pleasant service.

Overall we think the service is quite good, and if you have problems you can escalate it with some confidence of resolution.

Conclusion

Upon re-review, Park Street Mews has creative, tasty food with amazing plating in a happening spot. Cool scene.

TIP

Explore the shops and cobblestone street nearby. Oh and they actually have a decent WiFi connection.
