Peri Peri Kukula has a simple menu. Flame grilled chicken in different portion sizes, with or without sides, or you can simply opt for a burger/wrap. You get a say in how hot you want your sauce to be, from their scale of hotness - garlic and herbs (for kids), medium, hot and extra hot.
You could be a vegetarian, but it's not a reason to avoid Peri Peri Kukula, as they've got a bunch of veg-dishes as well.
We got the 1/4 Chicken (Rs. 650) with Extra Hot Peri Peri sauce and Grilled Sweet Corn (Rs. 150) on the side.
When Peri Peri Kukula means 'extra hot', it is, in fact, extra hot - to the point that it would make a grown man cry. Every inch of this chicken was well-marinated in this sauce in a manner that even in the most inner layer, you could taste it. Generously rubbed with more peri peri sauce, it was basically a piquant burst, followed by the smokiness produced by the flame grill, and the general chickeny taste.
If your chicken is still not hot enough, try dipping it in the extra helping of the peri peri sauce they offer.
Our Chicken Wrap with Hot Peri Peri Sauce (Rs. 690) was superb too. Pulled chicken soused in a spicy sauce which is a tad bit less spicy than the previous one, this wrap was stuffed to the gills with pieces of onion and lettuce.
Popped with light brown colour, and sprinkled with brown sugar, the Churros (Rs. 550) was light, perfectly crispy and simply delightful! At a glance, the amount of sugar on the plate made us think that it would be overly sweet, but surprisingly, it wasn't.
We'd prefer if it was a little fluffy, and the chocolate dipping on the side was served warm, inspite of this, it was the perfect way to end the meal - especially after gobbling down all that heat.
Peri Peri Kukula does a couple of juices, which they served in a bottle. Our Passion Fruit Juice (Rs. 250) was refreshing, and featured rich notes of natural passion fruit, in a very balanced manner. The sugar here is very less, so the sweetness you get mainly comes from the fruit itself.
Tucked in between a couple of houses down Jawatte Road, Peri Peri Kukula is not very spacious, but they have arranged a bunch of wooden chairs and tables to accommodate around 10 - 12 customers at a time. The seating setup here is divided into two - the airconditioned space from the inside, while the covered veranda space has a fan to cool it down.
It was fully packed on the day we visited, but we didn't experience any problems regarding their service. From placing the orders to delivering them to our table, everything was done so smoothly.
Much like our previous visits, we thoroughly enjoyed our recent experience at Peri Peri Kukula. Their chicken is delicious, tastes even better with the excellent peri peri sauce, and quite worth for the price you pay for it.
