Rizwan's Wade Cart (Trinco)

Dockyards Road, Trincomalee

  • Open Best in the evening

On the corner of Dockyard's and St. Mary's (depending) Rizwan runs a good wade cart. He's got manioc chips, fried garlic, and those little wade balls. He's a nice guy, the food is fresh and just different enough from Colombo stuff to be interesting.

The Food

DSCF6482

Rizwan's wade offerings are slightly different in that his wade (which is basically flour, lentils and spices) are round and spherical rather than flat. Like little popcorn balls. He also offers a variety where the wade is wrapped around a chili.

The other stuff is pretty regular, though we do think manioc chips are an innovation worth commenting on. You get them elsewhere, but manioc fries and crisps are cheap, tasty and - while not as excellent as the potato versions - pretty good.

The other offering we tried was the fried/roasted garlic. Seasoned and cooked to pungent perfection.

Location/Service

Rizwan is a literally a guy with a cart. The service is excellent and the street corner location, while accessible, is not the best place to eat. What's recommended is to get the wade wrapped up in newspaper and have it on the beach nearby.

Conclusion

Good wade. This plus Swyree's kottu makes for a good tour of the local bites.

TIP

Get extra chili and seasoning, which he offers anyways.
