Soy & Szechuan is all about tasty Szechuan style Chinese fare, made with a good splash of soy, and other elements. They're a cloud kitchen chain with branches in Nawala, Colombo 5 and Mount Lavinia.

The Food

We kicked off our meal by serving ourselves a few spoonfuls of Burnt Garlic Chicken Rice. For me, the most appealing quality of a fried rice is the wok breath, and this one was full of it. You can sniff it from a mile away, really. Each bite was packed with bits of chicken and the burnt garlic was indeed a nice touch. 
Boasting a beautiful red hue, the Sapo Chicken had the sweet, salty and spicy elements at the right balance. There were fat chunks of chicken soaking up that flavour goodness, making every bite so rich and flavourful. 
This was the spiciest one out of the lot — the Hot Butter Cuttlefish. Generously smothered with chilli flakes, these cuttlefish chunks were encased in a crispy, golden-fried batter coating. It's good with rice and better with beer. 
Oozing out with a subtle peppery kick, the Black Pepper Beef stayed true to its name. The sauce had a nice tang as well, which complemented the chewy beef. The Black Bean Chicken had this lovely smoky character. Such a vibrant dish it was, with many colourful bell pepper chunks, black beans and plenty of chicken to go around. The sauce itself was a combination of spicy, tangy and umami. Hot and garlicky as promised, the Prawn In Hot Garlic was an absolute treat. Garlic and seafood is a match made in heaven, and Soy & Szechuan has put it to good use here.

We really enjoyed this glossy pool of a sauce, that had a spicy, tangy flavour profile, along with a mild sweet kick. The prawns were fat, plumpy and delicious, all thanks to absorbing all that flavour in the sauce.
The Garlic Kankun was simple, just as it should be. There was a fair amount of garlic, while the kankun is cooked to retain its crunch.

Prawns, shallots, noodles and a dose of spiciness tossed onto a sizzling wok, this Szechuan-style Chilli Prawn Noodles is a good one, especially when you want just a quick lunch that you can eat at the spot. 

Conclusion

We made many delicious discoveries during our experience with Soy & Szechuan. If you want something spicy, go with the HBC; something hot and garlicky, get the Prawns in Hot Garlic Sauce; something smoky, the Black Bean Chicken is your best bet; something peppery, the Pepper Beef is the one to beat. We really enjoyed that contrast of flavour, and highly suggest that you try it out.
