Spinner

479, Thalawatugoda Road, Kibulawela, Madiwela

Formed by cyclists for the fitfam!

Health-conscious or not, Spinner promises a good meal and they deliver it. Unlike many other healthy spots in town, the dishes that Spinner whip up have a very Lankan touch to it, and they're hella affordable too.

Food & Drinks

The menu at Spinner features a whole bunch of roti sandwiches, kottu, pasta, and soups on the food side, while the drinks range is comprised of coffee, tea and healthy smoothies.

Veering off from the pieces of godamba/paratha roti, the Chicken Kottu (Rs. 550) was made with manioc. Generously infused with green chillies, karapincha (curry leaves), cardamom, and a bunch of more spices that we cannot really put our finger on, the whole thing was well-spiced up.

The chicken leg sitting on top was boasting with rich curry notes, which helped to improve the flavour even more. Paired with the omelette, the portion here is quite large, so it can be easily shared among two people.
The Sprats Roti Sandwich (Rs. 380) featured a superb filling of tempered sprats, stuffed inside a crispy, freshly-made pol roti. There was a tinge of sweetness to the filling like a proper seeni sambol does, and a lot of sprats in the mix. I love sprats, and if you do too, this is a good purchase at Spinners.

Gooey, chocolaty and incredibly fudgy, we loved this Brownie (Rs. 270) drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was warm in the middle, absolutely soft, while the outside was delicately firm.

As for drinks we good the Citrus Kick (Rs. 440) and a Cafe Mocha (Rs. 550).
The Citrus Kick is a brilliant way to get your daily dose of Vitamin A and C. Concocted with orange, apple, and pineapple, it had a slight ginger undertone. Plus, they use king coconut water instead of normal water to make it, so it's quite soothing on the palate too.

Spinner uses Lavazza coffee in their coffee-based drinks, and they make a good Cafe Mocha with it. The coffee-to-chocolate ratio here was spot on, and it had just the right amount of milk in it. It's perfect to warm up yourself on a rainy day.

Ambience & Service

Spinner is tiny, but has a very chilled-out atmosphere with a few wooden chairs and tables. Let it be catching up with a friend, a coffee date or simply treating yourself to a cosy evening with a book in your hand, it accommodates all of them.

The staff was quick and helpful, and our food and drinks arrived within around 15 minutes.

Conclusion

We've always enjoyed our visits to Spinner, and this time around, it wasn't any different. If you're passing by and looking for a good, very Lankanised meal without squeezing your dry, this is one solid place for that. They also have bicycles parked outside for rent, if you feel like taking one out for a spin afterwards.
