Steam Boat provides a lovely spot for sunset and wave watching. With an elevated cement and canopy dining area as well as shaded chairs and tables on the sand, venue wise they've got it spot on. Food, however, not so much.
Steam Boat has got a regular customer base for cheap Sri Lankanized Chinese food. The food's okay if you're craving cuttlefish, but otherwise a bit goopy.

Few weeks back I was seated watching a foreigner and his children playing on the beach.
A while later one of our Sri Lankan boys approached him with a King Coconut;
which was then sold for a Thousand Rupees.
The said Beach Boy ran towards the empty bottle area and grabbed
several Drinking Straws from the Empty bottles.
He took them inside the kitchen and immersed them in a pot of water
which was on the kitchen range.
He ran back to the Foreigner and the kids drank from the King Coconut
I pointed this out to the kitchen staff who made me understand that they are helpless.

This was a horrible experiance. I ordered the hot butter mushroom and it was just fried batter in oil. only 2 or 3 mushroom pieces. It was just clumps… Really not worth wasting your time and money. I also got a meat chopsuey rice among other things and this had hardly any meat. Really dissapointed in steamboat!!!

Had to pay extra 650 rs as serving charges and tax.(I dont know why that much)…Also trible the price of a beer bottle rs 410 (normal price rs 180)…👎

Do not Eat from this place. they serve some bad oily food. I ordered Chow mein from them and it was loaded with oil. now I have had Chow Mein which is a soggy noodle but it should have a broth which brings the sogginess. The manager 'Herath' also argues that oil is what makes it wet which just shows their knowledge in food.

Stem Boats foods are awesome. The best Chinese I had so far. I go to the place in Borella. It's near the D.S. Senanayaka College. But not comparing with 5 stars. Unlike other fake Chinese, Steam Boats foods smells nice too because I think that is the original "Basmathi Rice" they use. We can't have that experience from normal fried rices in other restaurants as far as i know.
Normally we order 2 Full chicken Rice and 1 Devil Chicken curry. So it's more than enough for 4 of us and there is leftovers for the next morning too which makes early morning cooking easy ;)
Recommend: I would recommend not to go for set menus if there is more than two people. You can order rice and curries individually and it's cheaper too.
I went to this place last Saturday with my family & I was told by an employee that food cannot be served because the place is reserved for a party which was outrageous. What was most disappointing is that we went in search for this place for like half an hour because the direction boards they have put up were not clear. Not going back again. Steam Boat Nawala is heaps better in terms of customer service!

The Worst Restaurant Ever.Went on 15th April 2014.The service was awful. No customer service at all…Lights went off just after paid the bill around 10.55pm.please don't go with your wife and daughters.

I talked to the manager at mount after seeing this review, apparently Hot butter cuttle fish is their number one seller. and I personally order it all the time. I just love it!

AWFUL AWFUL DELIVERY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE
Today I ordered, dinner worth of 3000 from Steam Boat Moratuwa. We placed the order at 7.30pm and were informed delivery will take 1 1/4 hrs, which we agreed. Yet the dinner did not delivered until 9.45pm. We kept on calling, but whoever answered the phone keep on ignoring saying "we will check and let you know"and hung up even before the conversation is over. He did this 3 times. This is really disappointing. I will never order steam boat ever, but i still choose to dine in since i really like its food. Please improve the delivery customer services, with out further disappointing customers. If steam boat can't manage the delivery service then cancel it. Because we wasted a lot of time
Well we had a company private party at this place and the food was pathetic. No taste at all and the rice was not properly fried and the dishes were over cooked and with either less salt or with too much salt.our company will never hold a party at this place where food is terrible.a
Avoid this place at any cost. I still don't understand how these people still in the business because they offer shitty service to customers and often use thugs if someone complains about their service. DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE EVER!!!
