After spending a few years driving around Colombo in their food truck, the Street Burger has now settled down in a nice spot down Marine Drive with ample parking space - right next to Bambalapitiya Keells supermarket outlet. We dropped in for a bite one weekend.
The menu here is comprised of a range of beef and chicken burgers, a couple of sides, desserts and a few drinks to wash them down. All of the burgers are offered in their usual paper bag, while the drinks are served in tall plastic cups.
Anyway, the prices have gone up a bit - varying from Rs. 500 - 1000, but the quality and the flavor of the food seem to have remained intact.
With two beef patties to boot, the Twin Drifter was your classic double beef burger, and a really good one at that. It would drain your wallet dry for a hefty price tag of Rs. 950, but however, the incredibly juicy beef patties, and a slice of cheddar cheese that melts right into them sort of make-up for the money you spend on it.
The layers of Dijon mustard and bread and butter pickles made every bite so rich and left us wanting more. This one was also smothered with Street Burger's homemade specialty sauces, contributing to the tangy factor of the overall flavor. Everything was neatly sandwiched in between a soft, delicious bun.
Talk about being hit over the head with a load of flavors - this burger right here is one of THE BEST burgers I've tried in my life. Known as the Thunder - Voltage (Rs. 790), it's a burger that well lives up to its name.
Sporting a massive piece of char-grilled chicken breast, melted cheddar cheese, a heap of pickled jalapenos, sliced habaneros, lettuce, and tomato, along with a good drizzle of homemade specialty sauces, it was the bomb! Idk how they did that, but even with lots and lots of components in it, we could taste every flavor of all the ingredients.
It was all about being an explosion of flavors, and also about balancing them out so well. The chicken breast was grilled well and had a smokey flavor boosted by a few charcoal bits here and there, while the pickled jalapenos and tomatoes added a bit of tartness to it. The heat that comes from the habaneros is no ordinary spiciness that stays on your tongue and burns it. It's a heat that goes through your nasal cavities and spreads, and it can make you tear up if you eat more of this. Unlike the regular chilis, this spiciness comes and goes but beware, this burger has plenty of sliced habaneros in it.
Order up something sweet on the side if you're planning to indulge in this, preferably their iced Milo (which we will discuss in a bit). Trust me - you're gonna need it.
The only downer was the bun. It's the same deliciously soft bun that they use in the previous burger, but considering the massive filling inside this, it certainly needs a stronger one to hold them all.
We also tried their French Fries (Rs. 300), which is a comparatively generous portion of crispy, sharp fries with a hint of salt in it.
The Passion Fruit Mocktail (Rs. 440) was more of a passion fruit mojito, and it was excellent. Concocted with Sprite, flesh and seeds of passion fruit, and a few mint leaves thrown in, it was the perfect unification of sweet and sour flavors.
They do a decent cup of Iced Milo (Rs. 300). Creamy and thick, with the proper consistency, it boasted a rich Milo flavor. A couple more spoonfuls of Milo would certainly make this better. As I mentioned below, this one goes well with the Thunder - Voltage burger. Make sure you stir it well before drinking.
This new establishment of Street Burger is a well air-conditioned, two-storied one, and spacious. Around 50 people can fit in here comfortably. The upper floor is more like a container box, with plenty of natural light seeping through its two glass walls.
You can place your order as soon as you enter from the downstairs entrance, and they'll provide you with this buzzer. If it vibrates, makes a noise or lights up, it means that your order is ready. Our gadget buzzed within like 20 minutes after we placed the order.
If you're around Marine Drive and craving for some meaty, juicy burgers, swing by Street Burgers. Or if you're saving up to eat at a franchise burger place, bring that money and eat here. Because their burgers sure seem to satisfy, despite the risen up price tags. We recommend.
*Nations Trust Bank American Express cards are accepted here.

With one of the best beef patties around, Street Burgers is another welcome addition to the local food scene.
