44/1, Horton Place, Colombo 07
Open until 11:00 PM
The new address they relocated to is easily accessible and there is plenty of parking. From a food POV, it may not impress everyone but the place sure is somewhere we can all relax at.
If you're looking for a quiet hang out spot around Town Hall, that's good for large groups, consider The Paddington. Their food and drink are quite pricey, but they've got some winners like their Kraft Oreo shake and Waffiza (more on that later).
We took a PickMe to get there during lunch time traffic, and it was a pretty smooth ride.
They've got the usual suspects on the menu, when you think of coffee shop fare. There's burgers, waffles, and even Mongolian fried rice options, ranging from around Rs 500 to Rs 1000. They also do platters of meat for three people with a dessert waffle and beverages for Rs 7000.
We tried the Grilled Beef Medallion Burger (Rs. 695). It came with a generous cut of beef for a patty. It looked better than its actual bite, though. The beef was too tough.
It was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it didn't have any juiciness to really add flavour to the burger. We were quite disappointed with the beef, but the rest of the burger was fine. The bun was soft.
They've got quite a range of waffles on their menu, and we were intrigued by the Waffiza range. We tried the Delicious Date and Chocolate Waffiza (Rs. 585), and it was pretty damn good. It's quite a decadent bite, for a waffle, but it really works. I couldn't have more than two slices. MalMal had three. We brought back three for the office, all of which were consumed by Janith. We like.
While placing our order, the girl at the counter was kind enough to recommend the Kraft Oreo shake (Rs. 495), so we tried it. It's amazing. With just half an Oreo placed as a garnish and perhaps for dunking pleasure, we felt like there were quite a few Oreos in the actual mix.
It's quite rich in flavour and very creamy. It's easily shared by two people. They serve it chilled, so you'll have to drink it slow. Unless you're particularly fond of brain freeze.
The Espresso (Rs. 380), served with two biscuits, sadly didn't match the steep price. It's served with no crema, so minus points for execution. It's also very bitter. Best to avoid and maybe explore their colder beverages.
The place is really quiet at lunch time, and they're not too busy. Some of the dining areas were quite dimly lit. The couches near the entrance are comfy but they're also falling apart. It seems appropriate for large groups.
The Paddington is quite chilled out. We had a so-so experience with the food and drink, but we quite liked the stuff that worked. Their staff seem nice enough. There's quite a few contenders in the area that deliver a better experience overall, but if you're looking for a sweet, chocolatey dessert... head over here and gorge on the Oreo shake and Waffiza.
With mediocre food and drinks, as well as poor presentation, there is definitely a lot of room for improvement. Nevertheless, the place is a favorite among some people due to its ambiance.

The Paddington is another mid-range coffee-shop which, while neither cheap nor original, has plenty of room to hang-out and a range of food and drink to keep you there.
