Wafflery is a small new restaurant down Marine Drive that specializes in waffles, but they've also got milkshakes, mojitos and shisha. The place is a one-stop-for-all sugar rush. Wafflery is by Choco Luv
, so you get a lot of the stuff you find on ChocoLuv's menu (yummy ferrero and oreo flavoured shakes) and it actually reminds us a bit of Choco Luv's long gone glory days.
We can't find any fault with the menu here. Lots of nutella and ice cream involved, so if you like getting sweet tooth, this place is a slice of heaven. There's a decent range of waffles to pick from - strawberry, rocher, maple, nutella and fruit, and then there are savoury options of beef, crab, prawn, chicken and even veg. There's a long list of hot milkshakes, cold milkshakes and tall mojitos too.
We just got a Nutella Drip waffle (Rs. 450), so we can't speak for the savoury waffles (well maybe we can a tiny bit judging by the quality of what we got). The Nutella Drip was appetizingly presented - a very soft waffle completely slathered in warm Nutella, topped with creamy globs of whipped cream and served with a side of sprinkle-topped vanilla ice cream. Two thumbs up for this, especially since the waffle was big and it was a sugary, filling dish.
We also got the Awesome Foursome from the milkshake section (Rs. 600), which we think is a super deal for that price. You get four flavours of extra thick milkshake - nutella, strawberry, oreo and vanilla, in small glasses a little taller than shot glasses. This is a nice and easy order if three or four of you want to get together for a quick fresh sugary drink. Oh and it has to be said, the oreo milkshake is particularly amazeballs with a very strong oreo flavour.
Service & Ambience
It's a really small, neat little A/Ced restaurant with just three table sets inside and one outside, and a view of the sea obviously. Service was good and fast, especially since the waiter only had to focus on a handful of customers. It probably gets crowded in the evenings, and sugary waffles and ice cream are hard to take-away, so we suggest you visit early during the day to get a seat.
We really like the Wafflery - the prices are fine, there's a good range of options, also you don't get a lot of places in Colombo that specialize in waffles. If you're the type who likes to eat nutella with a spoon, this is your second home - it's also fun if you're not a nutella gorging freak and you just like waffles and sugar. It's quite new though, so we're going to cross our fingers and really hope Choco Luv will be able to maintain the place better than their headquarters.
There is an interesting range of shisha flavours to pick from and the prices range from Rs. 850 to Rs. 1100.
