Best places to stargazing.

What's the best place to go stargazing (watch stars) somewhere that is far from City lights and clear of stars. If I can camp out there it would be a added bonus but it's not a priority.

Your best bet is the national parks. They have minimal to no light pollution and normal pollution, so your star gazing is unbelievable. You'll never see something like that in Colombo. I'd recommend staying at one of the jungle bungalows like Saraii Village or the Back of Beyond properties like Dehi Gaha Ela

I've had a great experience at Saraii Village, near Weerawila, Hambantota

I wouldn't recommend most beaches as they're usually near light pollution. National park wise, there are bungalows you can stay in within Horton Plains, but I don't remember going out to look at the stars while I was there. Don't remember why. It was cold.

I think the beaches on the east are good too late in the night like passekudha

Doubt it. Tried Pasikudah beach for astrophotography and it was too bright even at 2am! The chain of hotels there ruin the night sky.

As i lay in bed at night, gazing at the star studded sky above me, i couldn't help wondering….where the hell was my roof !!
