no, unfortunately, I make only for family and friends, let me know when you want to try :D

the Biryanis here are all useless, firstly you can't make Biryani with Samba….thats not Biryani, thats just coloured, boiled rice……not one place in Colombo can make a good biryani, even the Moghul Palace Biryani was a disappointment. pretty close to good is Big Bite Biryani.

Maharaja Palace down Rajakeeya Mawatha does some excellent stuff….again on the high-end. Big bite is also not bad… But there loads of home-based caterers who does awesome stuff… Farah from Cake Factory fame is one….

I assume your looking for affordable everyday lunch yes?

don't try raheema! its not worth any shit! super expensive comparatively for something that tastes pretty watery. best value for money biriyani would be "elite indian restuant" directly in-front of HSBC. about 230 bucks. generous quantities.

btw i do suggest u try the beef or mutton biriyani at raheemas, upstairs in the AC section. apparently they use two kitchens and the food is somewhat of better quality (and higher price :P )

i tried home made biryani, it was good. It was Tasty Yummy Delights, located at wellawatte. Regarding price, i felt it was cheaper as compared to Big Bite, comparatively less oily too.

Indian Chaat at Haig Road Colomo 4 , does very good biriyani ( needs a tad bit more chicken) and has quite tasty Indian food and Indian sweets. Pay them a visit .

Banana Leaf on Galle Road is also very good, but be prepared for stained fingers …. bit heavy on the "kaha kudu"!

All depends on where you're craving is for "Biryani" or "Buriyani"…
"Biryani" - The world famous, subcontinental rice dish with origins from the Mughal period > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biryani

"Buriyani" - Is the Sri Lankan take on "Biryani", almost always done with Samba rice. If its not Samba it ain't the "Buriyani" we grew up with.

Back to your question, Places.

"Buriyani" - Hands Down RAHEEMA's
I'd travel 15km on a work day just to have my "Buriyani" at Raheema. I never take out. Almost always sit down and eat while catching up with the old waiters, whom over the years have been replaced by new faces. I basically must have sat in the same spots ever since I was a primary school kid in Blue shorts.

"Biryani" - Al hambra at Ramada Hotel Colombo, liked Mango Tree

I read your Lamprais taste-off and it was quite good feedback. why not do a similar one for Biriyani / Buriyani. I am a fan of Buhari but would love to know what other place got on offer:)

GALLE CATERERS for Buriyani by the Savens. Each Saven has plenty of rice for 10 (ten) people! So you calculate on that basis and order extra curries of each. This is for serving Buffet style Buriyani.

I lived in India for 5 years and was on search for similar taste briyani in Sri Lanka and finally got the contact of Harris Pot Briyani in Dehiwella. Unfortunately they only have takeaway in 3 person pot and 7 person pot and you have to place advance booking. The taste is comparable to the Indian briyani and it is the best briyani I tasted in Sri Lanka
