Burr Coffee Grinders

Does anyone sell burr coffee grinders in Colombo? Even a hand grinder would suffice. Looking for something relatively inexpensive.

No one I know sells budget priced burr grinders in Lanka.

BTW what's your price range?
You can order from overseas (Amazon) but shipping is a killer.
Budget electric burr grinder U$120-250 (make sure it's not 110-120V, get a 220-240V model. DONT USE A TRANSFORMER)

Budget hand cranked burr grinder mill u$35-50 (I use the Hario mills when I travel)

eBay was the way to go. Got a Hario Mini Mill (hand cranked) for about $25. More than sufficient for my morning brew.

great to hear Malinthe!
The best way to enjoy coffee is to grind the beans just before brewing. Fresh ground beans have far more aroma & flavour than the pre-ground stuff.

The Hario mills are excellent for brewed coffee, not for espresso.

Which mill did you get?

BTW how do you like your coffee?

a) black, no sugar?
b) black with sugar?
c) milk with sugar?

a) light roast
b) medium roast
c) darker roast (but not roasted for espresso, that's too dark & bitter tasting for brewed coffee)

Is it made with a plunger or drip filter cone (paper filters)?

Black, no sugar, of course.

I think I like darker roasts more but the one I'm having these days is a medium roast.

I'm using an Aeropress right now (with the paper filters). Was thinking about getting a Able Brewing Disk for the Aeropress and a V60 pour-over kit eventually.

Aero press = awesome

The able disk for the press is very convenient, but I find that it strips a little body & oils from the brew.

The V60 kits are a little finicky initially, but once you get the grind, amount of coffee & time of brew right, it's an excellent way to enjoy black coffee no sugar.

Invest in a set of digital weighing scales (preferably 0.1g instead of 1g increments).

Hi,
Curious if you bought the AeroPress locally? If so, please could you pass on the details?
Looking to get my hands on one.

I got mine off eBay but you should be able to get an aeropress locally from Kopi Kade on Stratford Avenue https://www.yamu.lk/place/kopi-kade

Do you know how much it'd cost locally? Is it/would it still be available with them for purchase? Or else I'd have to consider vouching for a purchase via Amazon I guess.

Pay a visit to Kopi Kade and see. I'm not sure about pricing but I think they'd start from 6k and go upwards? Ymmv.
