Hey! Yep Poppy seeds and Chia look very similar, Sau Ata is known as Sago in English, Kasa Kasaa ata is what we use to make the local drink Saruath and that's Chia Seeds if I'm not mistaken!
And you're welcome! :)

Original chia seeds are not produced in the region, as they come from Latin America, so chia seeds are not abundant in local Sri Lankan market, we are yet to adopt a name for it too.

I found Chia plants in Nuwaraeliya, farms and home gardens as a weed the seeds came with exotic vegetable seeds which are imported from various destinations,America, South Africa,Malaysia,India Europe and other, we call it (Rathu Thampala) only the leaves are cooked with lentils or potatoes, the bush is growing to 4 feet height

We all know 'Kasa kasa' used with 'Saruwath'. Chia has similar properties but smaller in size. Both are black in colour. 'Kasa kasa' according to some, is the seed of Basil, which I am not sure. Both Chia and Kasa kasa can be used in similar way in food and beverages. Kasa kasa is locally available and Chia is not. (An extract of Chia packaging say "The ancient Aztec and Mayan empires revered Chia seeds as vital nourishment". It is supposed to be very nutritious and to my knowledge Kasakasa is nosecond to Chia.
