How does banks' SWIFT code work, specially for branches?

See this commercial bank swift code. The code is CCEYLKLX, but how can I enter for Kandy branch, and the kandy branch bank code is 7056 & branch code is 4. I understand branch bank code (eg: commercial bank kandy 7056) is not necessary, but branch code 4 is necessary. Therefore, I can say commercial bank kandy SWIFT code is CCEYLKLX4. Is this right? What is 4 digit bank code (eg: 7056)?

Likewise, refer other popular banks such as sampath bank, hnb, boc, people's bank, etc.

I've specified the SWIFT code as is (BSAMLKLX in my case) and haven't faced any issues with transfers originating outside Sri Lanka. I guess it'd be best to contact your bank for clarifications. Is the branch code a mandatory field in your case?

I think SWIFT code with branch in some cases. I think I can try with bank, but sometimes they are ignorant or less knowledge.
