We simply don't promise when or how we review places. We're happy to get review requests but we don't take them as commands.

As per our review process, we do write about things we think are worthy or new. How we review places depends on tips, chance and, yes, personal preference. We have limited time and resources but we are out there every day. Our editorial independence is, I think, important to readers, so we try to preserve that.

if i m not wrong i was sent a rate card with rates for reviews by someone from YAMU, and was not accepted by us, However we were reviewed bad by Yamu sometime after, May be thats to get in touch with our competitors to do paid reviews??? I really like Yamu's reviews but if what i said is true it's NO GOOD

You want reviews done immediately. Why don't you commission Yamu to do a review. As in pay them. Don't be freeloaders and take good things for granted. This is why we can't have nice things.

"How we review places depends on tips, chance and, yes, PERSONAL PREFERENCE"
WHY? Why personal preference. I understand you have the independence to decide where you review, but still if you are also providing a service to your readers, I believe you should not restrict your reviews to personal preferences but should include anywhere and everywhere.
I guess now it makes sense why you guys hype up high-end places like Nihonbashi and or Ministry of Crabs.

Editorial independence is the absolute for Yamu - please don't change that one bit. Ridiculous complaints about wanting you to do a review, which sounds like Shanx assumes it will be positive; but with that sense of entitlement it does raise question marks!

But on a serious note, I think as an entity YAMU has a complete right to decide what they want to write about and how they go about doing it. It's obviously a choice of personal preference, in what they think should be written first. After all, it's not the Daily News.

Could we know which establishment Shanx works for?

The personal perspective is what gives Yamu its unique value. I hope it's not true that you charge for reviews. You said you usually go in as regular customers and pay your bills. That would really give you the freedom to praise or criticise without bias. I really do hope that's the way you do it. If not please say so.

YAMU does not charge for reviews.
Blabla, if you received a rate card I don't believe it was from us. The only paid service we currently offer is advertising; rates are public and can be viewed here: http://www.yamu.lk/advertising.html

Trish god knows what you have been choking on!
Listen anyone and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I merely pointed out a fact that yamu now just keeps promoting and hypes up the high end establishments!
I mean whoever is reviewing the food does not even have a proper idea of the cuisine?? you guys write up reviews as if you have travelled the globe and eaten at the best restaurants in the world!
For example which ever one of you did the review on the KBQ korean chicken! Kimchi is a waste of flavour and should be eaten with rice and curry???? SERIOUSLY?????? One should know about the cuisine they are going to try out!
Kimchi is the back bone of korea!!! I mean if you guys had no idea what the hell kimchi is i have no idea what your flavour profiles are like!
Secondly on munchkin having the best red velvet? you claim that they are as good as hummingbirds in london? you follow the hype and the talk and just follow along??? read up!!
Have you even tried a red velvet from Lola's in london??
but for Yamu nothing beats munchkins and sits :)
As for nihonbashi and ministry of crab?? ministry of crab is a rip off!!! you guys may get free meals at all these places but us commoners have to pay!
Ginza hosen has been around far longer than nihobashi and has a better range of sushi and sashimi (which is hand flown from japan ever week)! they have a larger range of makis and teppenyaki! they are a million miles ahead of nihonbashi and been around far longer! (there is more in sri lanka other than nihonbashi, ministry of crab, sits and munchkins guys :)
And regarding Yamu picking and choosing the places that benefit them! both La fiesta and Manhattan they were the first to be invited and do a review as you guys have a massive following!
So Indi Yes i do believe you guys review based on PERSONAL PREFERENCE like you stated!
And trish dude you must be choking on some bad shit if you been listening to these guys!!!
:)
have a brilliant weekend!

I'm trying to take this reply seriously , but "hand flown" from Japan , ty for the giggles Shanx :P Starting as a sort of blog style review of food, YAMU is doing pretty damn good, why not try places through preference , from the variety of cuisine that they have tried ,they aren't exactly sticking to a "safe zone" by going for "high end" cuisine, most of the places reviewed are reasonable in regards to the quality being offered. Another thing is that you think that there is a preference to "expensive" places you have overlooked the fact that they also look for "good" food regardless of whether its 100 rupees or a 1000.

anyway hand flown sushi isn't that good :P
