Import taxes

Hey guys, so I'm planning on buying a laptop from abroad and having it shipped down to Sri Lanka as prices are much lower abroad, however I'm worried about the taxes which they may be subjected to, any idea on how that works? Thanks in advance :)

What's the value?
And btw if it's by Amazon, the taxes are usually paid by the shipper.

False. Taxes are paid by buyer.

What about other sites though, besides major worldwide shipping stores… etc, website where you can get custom printed clothes shoes etc, down here or Marshall Sound…

What would the tax routine go like then?

Good luck on shipping costs with anything other than major online retail brands - when it comes through the general post and is a bit of a large package (larger than say, two pairs of shoes from ASOS) or if it looks suspicious you’ll have to go to the main Post Office where a customs officer examines it in front of you and names an amount (based on what I don’t know xD I’ve had very low taxes maybe because I put on a puppy face and the fact that I was female with a puppy face and declare to be a student). You should be okay with receiving clothes, books, CDs and small items without batteries to your doorstep.

Amazon shows you taxed ahead of time on checkout. If you buy from elsewhere mark as gift and ask them to ship it without invoices else you’ll definitely pay a lot in taxes, and I say this with a lot of experience

Please take these into consideration.
While Shipping it may get damaged, when you go to clear it you could get taxed, When you buy from another country the Models could be for that region and parts may not be available in the country. also consider warranty.
