Sri Lankan Chocolate vs American Chocolate (?)

Hi guys,
I recently got a package from Sri Lanka containing several chocolates. I forget the exact name of the first set (I believe it was Daintee), but the second one was an Edna Checkmate box. I was curious about the taste of these chocolates, as in comparison to American chocolate, it was much sweeter and it didn't really have that dark cocoa taste. As well, the texture wasn't as milky. By the way, these aren't complaints - the chocolates tasted fine in their own aspects. (: But I was simply wondering, is this the case for these brands or do most Sri Lankan chocolates taste less "dark/chocolatey" than American/European ones ones (that I'm assuming are available in Sri Lanka - Hershey's, Ferrero Rocher, etc) ?
Thank you for your time,
Sintar

This is tough because I don't much like chocolate, but I have had a lot of American chocolate and a bit of Sri Lankan.

My personal preference chocolate wise is 1) Royce chocolates from Japan, which basically taste like chocolate butter 2) Lindt, especially the white chocolate and then 3) American junk chocolates like Three Musketeers and Milky Way.

I don't like Sri Lankan chocolates much, but sometimes they're nice, and they're cheap. Generally I find them to be very sweet, which is fine. You can get Hansa chocolate which is made from Sri Lankan cocoa beans, that's actually nice but not widely available.

American chocolates are really rather unique. Hershey's is a very particular blend and stuff like Mars, Three Musketeers and Snickers are defined more by their filling than the chocolate itself. I think American chocolate is also pretty sweet, but a lot of that sweetness comes from the filling.

European chocolates are another thing altogether, you get really really dark chocolate that's popular there. I've never seen Sri Lankan chocolate served that wasn't well full of sugar and milk.

Thank you so much for your insight! Those Royce chocolates sound delicious, I'll be sure to pick some up next time I'm at the Japanese grocery market. (:

I guess yes in a way. A brand like Kandos has a light chocolate flavor against the mass unlike Lindt or Milka. Some like it some dont.

Thanks for answering! (: I LOVE Lindt (but then again, who doesn't?) It's interesting that the general Sri Lankan population of chocolate consumers is sort of split in preference, as you've mentioned.

hey :) I think the Sri Lankan chocolates that you have had are the worst in my opinion… oops… coz till I read this comment i didnt even know that daintee does chocolates. they are known for their sugar coated chewy jelly crystals (jujubes).

However when it comes to Sri Lankan chocolates i would say that kandos is way better than the rest. Definitely not as good as international chocolates like Ferreros, Lindt and hersheys but from whats made in Sri Lanka, their Super blend chocolate bar is really good and very creamy and smooth. and yes most of the international chocolates are available in Sri Lanka.

Thank you so much for the advice! I know what to get now if I'm ever in the country and want to pick up some native brands. I appreciate your help! (:

Personally, I (and everyone i know actually) finds Kandos absolutely DISGUSTING! Ritzbury, on the other hand, have some really decent stuff! Their knockoffs of the big international chocolates like mars and snickers and bounty (E.g. rave) are really good and much, much, much cheaper alternatives to the imports and their Revello line is delicious!

Haha, simply the name "Revello" sounds delicious. Thanks for your input! (:

true kandos is disgusting not sure if they use real cocoa in it. ritzbury is way better and revello at least tastes like chocolate and not some weird brown thing which tastes extremely artificial

Yes it’s true, Kandos is little bit ok but no comparison with foreign chocolates

kandos is trash it has no flavor of real chocolate (at least the cheaper bars anyway)
