The Floor by O!.

The Floor By O! has been around for a while now, we’ve been there before and we find ourselves going back more. With very reasonable prices, competent staff and good music, they seem to know what they’re doing.

Food

We dropped by Floor twice in one day (‘coz we’re cool like that). We tried their lunch menu in the afternoon, and headed back for drinks once the sun went down. We found the menu quite interesting with it’s music playlist oriented theme, with a song title for each dish. The pricing was equally impressive with all the food items ranged between Rs.400-Rs.800. They offer the same menu for both lunch and dinner, so don’t expect the conventional options you see at other establishments.

All in all we’ve got nothing but good things to say about the food at Floor. We tried the Fish & Chips a.k.a Jive Talking (Rs.750) and the Slow cooked chicken with sour cream and noodles a.k.a Dancing Queen (Rs.650). When the dishes first arrived at the table the portions sizes seemed a bit on the smaller side, but half way through our meal we both agreed that there was plenty. The fish was nice and crisp, well seasoned with just the right thickness on the batter. The chips were slightly on the bland side, but nothing a bit of salt couldn’t fix.

The Dancing Queen is available in chicken or beef and came in a deceptively small pot that seemed to be an endless pit, but we managed to find our way to the bottom. The chicken, mushrooms, veges and noodles were all mixed in with a Stroganoff sauce (white wine & sour cream) topping it off. The meat was tender and cut into small bite sized pieces, and while the Stroganoff sauce worked well overall, it did tend to slightly overpower the flavour of the chicken.

Recently we’ve had a run of bad experiences with desserts, so we weren’t really expecting much. We ordered the Blueberry Cheesecake (Rs.400) and the Chocolate mousse (Rs.300). Once again, we were really happy with the portion sizes. The slice of cheesecake was one of the largest we’ve received from any eatery. The cream cheese had a smooth consistency, but was very firm at the same time. The blueberry topping had good a balance of sweet and sourness. If there was any room for improvement it would be with the biscuit base, which was a bit soggy. The Chocolate mousse was very simply presented in glass bowl, which we didn’t really mind at all, with some chocolate chips sprinkled on top. The mousse was smooth and the chocolate chips added a nice texture.

Drinks

Happy with our experience during lunch, we headed back to test out the bar and music. We ordered the ”Red Sea” (Rs.300) which is Lion larger mixed with lemonade and grenadine, and the ominously named ”Poison” (Rs.400) which had gin, vodka, rum and lemonade (basically all the good stuff).

The Floor by O! is known for it’s affordable drinks and that was quite apparent to us as well. The Poison had just right amount of each component, making it not too strong but enough to feel the hit. The Red Sea was a slightly modified version of your conventional larger, with the lemonade and grenadine adding subtle sweetness and tang. We also gave their mocktails a try. They were good, but nothing to call home about.

Ambience & Service

The service was very fast during lunch, but it should be noted that the place was mostly empty during the time. The staff was very attentive, and knew the dishes even when we referred to them by their musical titles. They have a large staff so you generally won’t find yourself being ignored.

We had mixed feelings about the ambience. While the entire theme works fine in the evening, the mostly stainless steel surroundings tend to be highly reflective during the day time making the place overly bright. What we did like though, was that while smoking was allowed, the interior was well ventilated, so the place never accumulated haze at any point. The music was also quite good throughout the night, with most tracks being from the late 90s.

Conclusion

The Floor By O! still offers a great bar experience with good food to boot. If you’re looking for a place to grab a few drinks and hang with some buddies, drop in at Floor.

Note: They’re closed for lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays.
