Sri Lanka is one of the largest producers and exporters of cinnamon to the world, yet a lot of us don't know much about it. Cinnamon is not just a fancy hotel in Colpetty, it's so much more. Here are a few things you probably didn't know about it:
1. It is one of the oldest spices in the world, so old it's even mentioned in the Bible.
2. The two most popular types of Cinnamon are Ceylon (that's us!) and Cassia.
Ceylon cinnamon grows in Sri Lanka, Madagascar and the Seychelles, while cassia cinnamon comes from Indonesia and China. Also known as “true cinnamon,” Ceylon cinnamon is expensive and thus used much less frequently; unless labeled (and priced) accordingly, cassia cinnamon is the kind your supermarket will most likely stock.
