Gone are the days of basic cinema halls in Sri Lanka. Scope Cinemas has revolutionized the cinematic landscape, becoming the go-to destination for movie lovers across the country.
Stepping into a Scope Cinemas multiplex is like entering a world of pure entertainment. Cutting-edge technology, plush seating, and a vibrant atmosphere set the stage for an immersive movie experience.
The highly anticipated Hindi film, “Merry Christmas,” finally arrived on January 12, 2024, gracing every screen at Scope Cinemas. Renowned director Sriram Raghavan brings his signature flair to this gripping mystery thriller, featuring powerhouse performances from Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi.
Filmed in both Hindi and Tamil, the film boasts a collaborative production effort. Ramesh Taurani, Jaya Taurani, Sanjay Routray, and Kewal Garg bring the story to life under the banners of Tips Films and Matchbox Pictures.
Casting proved key to the film’s success. “Vijay was the perfect fit for the role,” producer Ramesh confided in ETimes, explaining their decision to approach him. Likewise, “From the outset, Katrina was our sole choice,” he added, highlighting the undeniable onscreen chemistry between the lead actors. Further adding to the cast’s depth, Radhika Sarathkumar joined the Tamil version in April, ensuring its appeal to a wider audience.
The film draws inspiration from ‘Le Monte-charge’ (Bird in a Cage), a French novel by Frédéric Dard. The captivating musical score is composed by Pritam, while the stunning cinematography is the work of Madhu Neelakandan, and the precise editing is managed by Pooja Ladha Surti.
“Dil Ki Mez” is an enchanting song in the film. The captivating melody is composed by Pritam, with the heartfelt vocals delivered by Shalmali Kholgade. The lyrics, penned by Varun Grover, add depth to the song. This fresh Hindi track beautifully encapsulates the spirit of love and festivity.
Set in the 1980s Bombay, the film follows Albert Arogiasamy who, after a seven-year hiatus, comes home to the shocking news of his mother’s death. On a fateful Christmas Eve, he crosses paths with Maria, a captivating woman with a mute child, Annie, at a local bar, sparking an unforeseen connection. Albert, a recently returned architect from Dubai, and Maria, a local bakery owner, exchange tales of their past romances and present struggles.
As their bond intensifies, a shocking discovery awaits them at Maria’s apartment – her abusive husband, Jerome, is found dead. Albert, revealing his dark past of a prison sentence for a crime committed years ago, hastily departs, trying to erase any trace of his visit. Yet, a sequence of baffling incidents involving Maria, a peculiar toy bird cage, and a mysteriously vanished body, thrusts Albert into a whirlwind of mystery and suspense.
