The weekend starts here and we have a list of things you can do. There are parties, exhibitions and films and we start with:

Friday 5th September

Galle Fort Flea Market

If you are in Galle, the Galle Fort Flea Market is on the coming weekend. Music, entertainment, food and drinks, designer clothing, painting and posters. It’s a pretty hippy affair, with pretty trinkets to pick up. Law court square, Galle Fort, Galle.

Music From The Movies

Music from the movies such as Star Wars, James Bond, the Gladiator, Mission Impossible, from the musical Chicago and Adagio from Spartacus will be brought to life by The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka and the Ladies’ College Choir, and guest appearance by Ashanthi de Alwis, Devashrie de Silva, Amandhi Caldera and Thivanthi Perera. Ladies College Hall 66 Sir Ernest de Silva Mawatha, Colombo 7.

So if you rather go elsewhere over the weekend we suggest

The Floating Market

The Pettah Floating Market opened on the 25th of August to a lot of hype, and it’s worth it. Bastian Mawatha, Pettah.

The Arcade Independence Square

Arcade Independence Square is the third super-complex to pop up in Colombo, after Dutch Hospital and Racecourse. 30, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Seema Malaka Temple

This temple raised on platforms on the Beira Lake is probably the most beautiful place in the neighborhood — it’s a beautiful and unexpected piece of art that was designed by Geoffrey Bawa and funded by S. H. Moosajee in the 1970s. Beira Lake, Sri James Pieris Mawatha, Colombo 2

Happy weekending people.
