Here’s a quick heads up for anyone heading to Dutch Hospital over the next few weeks- the clams at the Ministry of Crab.
Their simple plate of sauteed bivalves is possibly the best things you can eat at the Dutch Hospital and it costs just Rs 680. Rich, meaty and sweet with more flavor than a scallop and softer meat than a muscle these are prime little fruits of the sea.
While there’s a bit of a TV inspired fad around spaghetti a le vognole (pasta with clams) many people seem to believe clams are some exotic, imported delicacy. Actually they are inexpensive and abundant in local waters. Also unlike the rather meager and rarely available local scallops, local clams are very good.
By putting clams sauteed in butter and soy on their menu MOC has done a good deed for Xmas- bringing something delicious, unusual and local to the attention of the Colombar populace. Served with a light, buttery foam, mopped up with kade paan and washed down with a beer on their outside terrace this is a delicious, and fairly affordable way of getting a Dutch Hos evening off to a good start.
