1.) I did but it only lets you search one category at a time.

2.) App view is to small and gives me a headache. So I don't download apps to search for restaurant. I'ma desktop type of person. :)

This question about preference-filter or whatever you want to call it, I asked about this same question about a year ago and I got the same response You gave. I think I have the email to prove it.
