Isha Water Park (Uppuveli).

Have you ever dreamed of owning a waterpark? A place where you could run free, never waiting in lines, and splashing around in the sun and water for as long as you care. As a child I often dreamed of such a place, and as an adult working in Trincomalee I have fulfilled my youthful dream.

Located in Uppuveli, near the third milepost, lies Isha Water Park (also known as ‘Waves’). An entrance fee of 600/ buys you a day at this perpetually deserted waterpark. The staff will turn on any ride you choose, and you have many choices. The tallest ride is three stories high, and consists of four racing slides (though there were only two rafts for that ride), a partially enclosed slide, and a fully enclosed slide. Just beyond the main building lies a smaller structure that has two slides and two enclosed tubes. The last feature of the park is a splash pond that has two large water fountains and a bucket that dumps a massive amount of water on you every few minutes.

The grounds are fairly well maintained, and have a comical assortment of statues. When you enter the park you must walk through a large dolphin, its really quite spectacular. Isha is a lot of fun, in a bizarre sort of way. The water was clean, and it was a refreshing alternative to sea bathing. I have no idea how they remain open, but I’m glad I got to spend a morning in a deserted waterpark.

The park is open seven days a week, from 8:30am to 5:30pm. The entrance fee for adults is 600/, for children its 350/. Groups of 8 or more receive 10% off, groups of 50 or more receive 20% off.
