Millennium Restaurant.

This is one of the more upmarket eating establishments on Vauxhall. It looks clean and professional: tiled and terrazzo floors, glass windows and an extensive, clearly printed menu on the wall. You can order from the menu but most of the food is already prepared: mounds of fried rice, plain samba rice, biriyani, nasi goreng, curries, veg.

From Monday to Thursday they offer the usual variety of veg curries served with samba rice and chicken/fish, and you can choose whether you want your chicken fried, curried or devilled (I like the curry). They also have the Chinese option of fried rice, vegetable chop suey, devilled chicken and chilli paste (this ranges from about Rs. 200 to Rs. 250 – depending on how ‘special’ your fried rice is).

Everything is tasty, and it’s a comfortable eat. No hint of the fishy – unless you’ve actually ordered fish.

Friday’s are good days and the Millennium restaurant makes them better by serving yellow rice, tempered potatoes, dahl, brinjal, meat of choice and malay pickle (delicious), This is really really tasty. The yellow rice, even plain, tastes great and you get a generous piece of chicken, and plenty of parippu (score).

We like this place. It gives you the nice home-cooked sort of taste you look for in the small bath kade with clean, nicely presented food. The service is excellent, and they’re friendly and swift. The Millennium restaurant is clearly popular – at any given time during the lunch rush there’s about 15 people seated and waiting for their food.

The rice and chicken curry lunch is Rs. 170, the same as at New Pillawoos. Millennium wins.
