The Crispy Chicken Burger Challenge.

There is something about crispy chicken burgers that makes people want to come back for it. A piece of chicken coated with a crispy batter that gives off a wonderful crunch while boasting juicy, chickeny goodnes, it's one of the best things in life. After all, it's a known fact that crispy chicken is comfort food!

So to battle away our Monday blues, we decided to bring all the crispy chicken burgers done by fast food outlets to a taste test!

The Contenders

The contenders of this taste-off are as follows.

Outlet Item Price
McDonalds McSpicy Chicken Burger Rs. 550
KFC Zinger Burger Rs. 610
Burger King Spicy Crispy Chicken Rs. 640
Dinemore Chicken Burger Rs. 430

In here, we've discussed the below factors.

  • Crispiness
  • Look and feel
  • Quality of the bun
  • The elements in the filling

Also, we get all the burgers with the cheese add-on.

McDonalds – McSpicy Chicken Burger

Right off the bat, you can see the massive size of this piece of crispy chicken which overflows its bun – which is an inviting sight. The bun here is lovely – very soft in texture, with sesame seeds are scattered on top and has a hint of sweetness to it.

McSpicy’s chicken was juicy, tender, and packs just enough spiciness without being overpowering. The batter is golden, crunchy, not hard, and adds more depth to the burger.

The mayo in the burger lent a bit of tang, which is a good touch to balance out the spiciness of the chicken. Plus, it added a bit of creaminess. As for veggies, this one had a pile of lettuce which made for a fresh crunch to the bite. All in all, the flavour of this felt rather balanced and smooth and was never boring.

Fun fact – there's a 'buy-one-get-one-free' promo on PickMe Food for this burger, starting from today – 20th, 21st and 22nd.

KFC – Zinger Burger

From the lot, KFC offers the prettiest looking burger. With a sizable crispy chicken patty, the bun was soft, and more or less similar to the one you get in McD's. As for the chicken, it's juicy, soft, moist, and packed with flavours.

However, it wasn't as spicy as we would have liked it to be. What is apparent here is the signature KFC chicken flavour which we found enjoyable despite the lack of heat. Also, the batter isn’t that crispy here but it’s enough to add some crunch.

We spotted a generous helping of lettuce in the filling, along with a dollop of mayo. Unfortunately, the slice of cheese didn't seem to contribute much to its flavour.

Burger King – Spicy Crispy Chicken

Burger King’s Spicy Crispy Chicken has a hefty piece of crispy chicken, with a tough batter coating, which somewhat overpowered the chicken flavour. The chicken was juicy but it's hardly noticeable, as the batter is too thick.

However, there was a definite cheesy flavour coming from the slice of cheddar, and in fact, it improved the overall flavour. The lettuce added a tiny crunch but was drowned out by the flavours of the other elements. The bun was soft, had a dusting of bread crumbs of sort, which scatters about with every bite.

Get a Spicy Crispy Chicken Burger, CCC Burger, and a small drink for just Rs. 850, exclusively on PickMe Food.

Dinemore – Chicken Burger

Besides being the cheapest in the bunch, Dinemore certainly has a non-fast food vibe to it. There was a good slathering of mayo there, and for a moment, we thought that it's cheese. The bun had a decent firmness from the outside and was decorated with some sesame seeds.

There were two sizable crispy chicken pieces inside which were juicy but the batter was somewhat hard which made us wonder whether it was refried or not. The sauce and mayo combo was not the best when it comes to aiding the flavours of the chicken and the whole thing felt more greasy than needed. We were not a fan of the aftertaste it carried as well.

The onions combined with the lettuce gave a crunchy texture. It’s also a fresh addition to contrast all the grease.

Conclusion

Each outlet’s take on the crispy chicken burgers is different. None of them is perfect but McSpicy is something that stood out from the lot.

We know all of you will have very tasteful thoughts about your favourite crispy chicken burger from fast food outlets. So let us know in the comments and hope you have a burger-filled week.
