7 Things To Like About Self-quarantine.

The COVID-19 epidemic is holding off all of our weekend getaways, adventures, eating out, Friday tipples, movie/date nights and other celebrations. Self-quarantining has distanced you from your social life, and despite how boring that is, you're actually doing your part to minimise the spread of this virus. And that's something to be proud of.

So look at the bright side. If you eliminate extreme boredom from self-quarantining, there are quite a few things to like about it too.

These are the silver linings of the dark cloud that is self-quarantine.

Keeps You Safe

The biggest perk of self-isolation is this. COVID-19 is why we're at self-quarantine, and it's the most effective way to keep ourselves safe from it. While reducing our chances of exposing to the virus, it also helps us practise proper hygiene, which is another method of protecting ourselves against COVID-19.

Saves Money

Due to on and off curfews, your capacity to go out is limited, unless it's for something absolutely necessary; like restocking your groceries/meds. You're working from home, no trips or gatherings are allowed, and the restaurants, movie theatres, and all the other public hang out spots are temporarily closed down. And all the money you usually allocate for these things? They're all safe and sound in your pocket/bank; if you haven't already spent them on quarantine snacks.

Family Time

Our busy work schedules hardly give us time to sit down for a quality conversation with our families, because we live in an era that time is considered as money. The time that you spend for your family can be easily converted into a few bucks if you're at work, and we do it so we can provide for our families. Like it or not, that's the harsh truth.

But now that you work from home, you've got plenty of time to do both. So this is an opportunity that should not be wasted. It's not just talking with each other, but finding an activity that the whole family can enjoy together; like gardening, cooking, playing badminton. It sharpens up the bond you have with them, and improves you as a team; all while having fun.

Me Time

While spending time with your family, allocate some me-time for yourself as well. Think of a few things that you always wanted to do, but never had the time for. It could be some work around your home, like fixing something broken, rearranging your furniture, redecorating a room, sorting your collection of digital pictures, and reorganising the wardrobe or, start a new hobby. Perhaps an art project, a dream journal or a scrapbook?

You can also catch up on movies, songs, TV episodes and podcasts, or learn a new skill, like playing an instrument, or a new language. There are many online courses and online groups that can help you in this regard. Furthermore, you can use this time to think ahead and motivate yourself. Update your goals, write a letter to your future-self, brainstorm ideas for a new/existing business or research for your next trip, while filling up yourself with positive thoughts.

Work Is Less Stressful

Any job comes with responsibility, and that tends to go hand-in-glove with stress; even when you're doing your dream job. Sometimes, a great part of this stress can include dealing with certain colleagues/team members at work. But home is the comfort zone for most of us, and working from your comfort zone can ease up the work pressure to some extent.

Homemade Food Galore

Homemade food is made with love, so they taste better. Made with healthy ingredients, the cleanliness of the homemade food is guaranteed, and they do not include any flavour enhancers like some restaurant food. More importantly, a homemade meal has the power of bringing the whole family together; from preparation to eating. So during this self-quarantine period, you have the opportunity to indulge in a flavourful meal, while strengthening your connection with the family.

You Won't Miss Restaurant Food

A whole bunch of restaurants in Colombo has activated their delivery facility, so if you live within the city limits, you always have the option of going with them if you ever get tired of eating homemade rice and curry. But make sure that you follow all the safety and hygiene precautions while doing so.
