Candle Light Hut is an affordable family restaurant that serves up some great plates of Pakistani meats and biriyani. If you’re out with a group and want to stuff yourself with South Asian spicy cuisine without ruining your wallet, this is not a bad choice.
The Food
I was very happy with my chicken biriyani. It cost Rs. 450 and was easily enough for two, or one totally famished person. The chicken was big and well roasted in masala, and this was served with creamy mellow sides to soften the spiciness.
We also got mutton kurma for Rs. 500 and chicken kadahi for Rs. 700 – giant bowls that we were told would be way too much for two. They were right. Each bowl was enough for about four people.
The mutton was tender and spicy, but it was the chicken kadahi that really impressed. It came in a very thick red masala-ridden curry specially prepared in Pakistani fashion, with a strong aroma and curd-like texture. This is an awesome curry to try out with Pakistani parathas, which are softer and smoother than typical Indian ones.
Service & Ambience
Candle Light Hut is just one big open space with wooden furniture and glass that looks out onto parked vehicles. They’ve got a strange curved ceiling, and sometimes there’s a waterfall running down the walls. The curved ceiling can make it noisy if there’s a crowd in here (sound bouncing off to the other end), and service wasn’t much, though at least the waiter knew the menu well.
Conclusion
This is a pretty good place to consider if you’re into Indian or Pakistani food (though they technically also have Italian and Western on the menu). The portions are big, so the prices are easy, and the curries are spicily prepared and delicious.
