Datery.

Datery is a shop that offers way more than just dates.
Located down Bauddhaloka Mawatha, most of the stuff they have here are imported from different parts of the world – mainly from the city of Madina in Saudi Arabia.

What's in Store?

Varying from dates, seeds, and nuts to honey, dried fruits and candy, the collection they feature here is quite impressive for a tiny shop like this.

One section of the shop is solely dedicated for dates, and we spotted around ten types of that – both sweetened and unsweetened. Mabroom, Khudri, Ajwa, Kimiya, Palestinian Medjoul, Safawi, Sukkary, and Anbara to name a few. Some of them are available in packets, while the others can be purchased in bulks/loose.

In terms of pricing, it starts at around Rs. 100 for 100 grams and goes up to Rs. 450 for the same quantity. The packaged ones could get expensive than that, depending on the weight.

Their range of nuts includes Almonds, Peanuts, Hazelnut, Pecan Nuts, Cashew nuts, Pistachio, and Walnuts etc. Prices of them vary from Rs. 190 to Rs. 700 per 100 grams.

From what we gathered, Pecan Nuts are the most expensive one in the lot, while the simple Turkish Peanuts are the cheapest. The nuts looked and tasted fresh.

We got this 100 grams of Chia Seeds for Rs. 255. Aside from this, they've got seven more kinds of seeds in here – Pumpkin, White Sesame, Black Seeds, Black Sesame, Basil Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, and Flax Seeds.

Most of them are being priced under Rs. 200 is a plus point.

The dried fruits section was our favourite. I mean, how can one not fall in love with all these boxes full of colourful fruits?

*Pictured above – Dried Cranberry

Featuring a collection of dried mango, pineapple, cranberry, apricot, kiwi, cherry, coconut slices and papaya strips etc., it was quite impressive. We got to try a few samples while we're there, and each of them was of high quality and most importantly, fresh while delivering the natural flavours.

Aside from a couple of options, all the others were priced under Rs. 300 per 100 grams, so it's not heavy on your wallet either.

The section of Honey is comprised of both local and imported bee honey. They're on the expensive side – a 100g bottle of Local Bee Honey is valued at Rs. 240, while Peshawar Bee Honey of the same quantity is sold at Rs. 490.

Our attention went to the Turkish Honey Comb here. At Rs. 1100, a bottle of that weighs 250 grams.

Candy-wise, they don't have a lot, apart from the podi stock of date chocolates, and sweets.

Service

The staff here is helpful, knows their way around the goodies, enough to make recommendations if you need any. If you want a taste before purchasing, they'll happily give you the opportunity to try a sample.

However, we were a bit confused to see some teeny tiny insects inside Mabgroom dates, and according to what we heard from the staff, it's a normal thing in that kind. But we're still a bit concerned about it.

Conclusion

Datery is a safe bet for all kinds of dates, nuts, dried fruits and seeds needs.  Given that they're available in small quantities like 50g and upwards, it's quite convenient, even if you're not a compulsive consumer of the above things. If you're too lazy to step out to grab them, try ordering them from their website.
