Pot Kottu.

A streetside eatery in Boralesgamuwa, Pot Kottu runs on a simple concept – homemade fried rice, kottu and noodles, served in a clay pot. They're available on PickMe Food.

The Food

Pot Kottu serves up a good variety of kottus with different kinds of meats – chicken, pork, fish, bacon, and sausages. You can get them with roti or bread, and each of them is served with a fried egg, some chilli paste, a slice of zucchini and a small helping of parsley.

We went with the Pork, Bacon & Sausage Cheese Kottu (Rs. 875). It was a generous portion; two can easily share it. However, in terms of taste, they certainly can do better. The overall flavour was quite mild, due to the lack of cheese and spices. There was a sprinkle of bacon and a lot of pork, but almost all of them were fatty chunks.

Thankfully though, we managed to draw some flavour from the kunisso-packed chilli paste, the wiggly fried egg sprinkled with parsley and chilli flakes, and the chicken sausage.

Despite the name Pot Kottu, it seems like fried rice is their forte. We got the Chicken Fried Rice (Rs. 570).

The rice was wonderfully fluffy, smoky and had that unique wok breath, while the seasoning was simple, yet tasty. They don't mix in the chicken but serve it on the side. A hefty piece of crispy, batter-fried chicken it was. When you bring in the egg and chilli paste, it makes for a delicious, wholesome meal.

Conclusion

Pot Kottu is a nice option to order up some classic, Sri Lankan-style fried rice, and all right kottu. They offer generous portions, good flavours, many elements and you get your money's worth. Plus, you get to keep the pot. I kept mine, and they're usable on a gas stove.
