Bakes Kitchen – A Shop & Dine-In Experience.

By Shamrina Carim

One of the Global Market in Sri Lanka has created an existential concept of a Shop and Dine experience around the heart of Colombo.

Now open at Thalawathugoda, Bakes Kitchen introduces fine dining in a compact, yet flattering space amidst the busy routine of shoppers at GLOMARK. The exotic ambiance and dining feel bring out a sense of relaxation around the destination.

We were introduced to a range of Sri Lankan & western dishes assorted with a pair of succulent desserts to enjoy.

1. Watermelon & King Coconut Detox

We were welcomed with a decent refresher after a tiring day. The King Coconut & Watermelon detox literally prepared us for a hearty meal and quenched our thirsts the right way. They have a variety of unique beverages prepared fresh over the counter. 1

2. Dunthell Chicken Rice

A simply delicious homemade rice menu was prepped, just the way we Sri Lankans love it. The yellow rice was rich in spices, served with a fish cutlet, fried chicken cooked in a sautéed gravy, Brinjal stir Fry to add to the flavor, and a pineapple mix cucumber salad to balance the spicing in the menu. You could enjoy a plate for lunch or dinner.

Price: LKR 650

3. Homemade Thai Chicken rice

One of the unique combinations of rice was the inspiration of Coriander. The rice was garnished and assorted with replenishing the coriander paste, giving out the perfect aroma. You could request a spoon of chili paste if you want to feel extra spicy on your taste buds. A must-try when you have absolute rice cravings.

Price: LKR 520

4. Chicken roulade with olive cream

A touch of pumpkin flavor is blended to taste with a version of olive and cream which we enjoyed along with the chicken. To experience the full taste of the plate, it would be lovely to accommodate a garnish of more sauce that will enhance the meat to be tender and juicier.

Price: LKR 700

5. Chicken escalope with sautéed mushroom & melted cheese, served with a choice of potato, vegetables & sauce

An all-time American main meal we would savor is a Chicken Cordon Bleu dressed valiantly with hot mashed potatoes. A garnish of rosemary is assorted with a wrapped pile of asparagus and pumpkin strips, boiled to perfection. Overall we recommend tasting the dish while it’s steaming hot to get the best out of the flavor.

Price: LKR 600

6. Beef Stroganoff with fragrant rice

We tasted a Thai-based dish where the steamed rice served proportionate to the number of cubes cut sautéed beef and mushrooms. The flavor of the meal entirely depended on the beef and mushroom stir Fry curry. We highly recommend trying out this dish while served hot so that you can enjoy a creamier version of the curry.

Price: LKR 1100

7. Baked Chocolate fudge cake

If you are not allergic to nuts, you are lucky enough to indulge in the glory of chocolate fudge. Every bite was fantastic, especially if you are a chocoholic. We recommend this as a top-tier dessert within a bustling dine-in restaurant.

Price: LKR 550

8. Coconut & mango mousse cake

Coconut, milky, sour, and sweet. A beautifully layered milky texture which is the pudding base and the coconut flavor that we get in the first bite is perfect for a fruity lover. Highly recommended to taste in peace.

Price: LKR 380
