Uga Residence
Uga Residence is our new favorite place to eat in Colombo. For Mother’s Day they’re doing a high tea with scones and the works. The High Tea runs from 3 PM to around 5:30 PM and you get a plethora of food – lamb stew, pork buns, oyster, fish, a whole tray of fruit and desserts and more. It costs Rs. 1,500++ each, though one serving is honestly enough for two. A lot of the stuff comes with free refills, and a glass of bubbly.
The fresh baked scones are especially good, served with generous amounts of clotted cream and jam. Also, as a note, we recommend pacing yourself on the savories to have room for the ample dessert tray. And there’s a Jack Daniels ice cream served in a white chocolate base, have that first.
Kingsbury Harbour Court
This mother’s day the Kingsbury is offering a caviar and oyster brunch at their beautiful Harbour Court (from 11:30 AM to 3 PM). It includes a glass of sparkling/brew/or mocktail and a family portrait. You can also win various prizes – like spa treatments and flowers.
The Kingsbury buffet is one of our favorites and it’s a nice Sunday treat for Rs. 3,750 per person.

Mount Lavinia Hotel
Mount Lavinia Hotel is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch (12:30 PM to 3:30 PM) at their recently revamped Governor’s Restaurant. The view across the water is beautiful and for a lot of people its closer than heading into Colombo.

Havelock Place Bungalow
Havelock Place Bungalow is a beautiful oasis set off of Havelock Road (the small road where the Laugfs is). They do creative, innovative menus and their ice creams are amazing. In terms of ambience, their leafy, dimly lit garden is one of the best places in town.

Park Street Mews Restaurant
PSM has excellent plating and generally good food, plus this Mother’s Day they have kid friendly items as well. The grown-ups menu is no slouch (salmon filet, or chicken, beef tenderloin or lamb) but it’s nice that there’s a kids menu as well (fish sticks, battered prawn) since a lot of Mother’s Day lunches tend to be family affairs.

OZO
Mother dines free at OZO (Colombo) for both the lunch and dinner buffets. It’s Rs. 2,300 per person and is for a minimum of 4 guest (ie, bring the family). Beautiful location, nice food, and you get a complimentary ‘I love you mummy’ card.

1864 is a reliable fine dining spot that has the most expensive buffet at Rs. 5,500 per

Waters Edge
Water’s Edge has a Rs. 3,250 buffet at Pranzo plus a lot of mother’s day activities – quizzes, a best look alike contest, a raffle draw, etc. Mums also get a complimentary rose, hair cut, family portrait, gift vouchers, etc.

For Rs. 2200 nett per person, Ramada’s Gardenia coffee shop offers a Mothers’s Day brunch with a dip in the pool too. They also have a range of baked goodies.

Buy Her A Gift
PR
Their wares ain’t cheap, but PR has lovingly curated items from local and international designers – clothes, jewelry and quite a few surprises.
Barefoot
The Barefoot shop has comfortable wraps, saris, jewelry (some quite affordable) and probably the best curated bookshop in the city.
Island Craft
Island Craft is a relatively new project from AOD. They work with local craftspeople to make creative and original home furnishings, clothes and knick-knacks.
Good Market Shop
If your mum likes cooking, there are countless little gems to find in the Good Market Shop – sun dried tomatoes, cashew pesto, different types of tea, etc.
Amber Spa (Colombo Courtyard)

Give Her Something Sweet
If you want to get something thoughtful and sweet, a cake or cupcakes from one of Colombo’s home bakers is a good idea. You can see our round-up of all the home bakers here. Sits is a classic, and places like YUMI Cake, the Cakery, Ambrosia and Skrumptious have outlets that can probably handle the Mother’s Day volume.
Try Flowers
Flowers also always good. We have a few options on our flower category page. They range from the funeral shops on Dean’s Road (which we don’t recommend for this occasion) to the posher places like Shirohana.
