Kailasa Street Food Cafe.

This place is long overdue and something Colombo needed so bad. Kailasa street food, serving over 12 different Indian and Lankan street food delights, all under one roof. The pop-up food stall concept started on Diwali, since then the services and the delicious food and desserts growing popularity have attracted crowds from across the country.

The Yamu team visited the Kailasa and tried every dish and dessert popular to the food stall. This is everyone’s favourite and popular Indian street food. The corn chaat, the corn treats stall is done by “Shaz’s corn treats”.  The price range starts from Rs 300 to Rs 350.  The corner experiments with various preparations.

Adding to the other street food delights are the pani poori rose milk and the cucumber mint juice (this is a must-try after all the eating). These are available at “Kashmeeri Ku Chat Pat”, starting from Rs 200 onwards.   The pani poori tasted good and can say it pretty much like what I had in India.   Thereon it was food and food, sometimes it’s hard to choose. The special mention to the burger place, inspired by the Japanese animated series Naruto, “Naruto Cafe”. The chicken patty burger was good and worth the money. The price of the burgers starts from Rs 400.

Having tasted food from all the stalls, it’s hard to say which stood. Those craving for idle and sambar with other side dishes should be tried from the Kailasa café. There are lots more, and all these 12 food pops staff work hard to serve the most authentic Indian and Lankan street food.  Despite the challenges faced, stalls do the best serving. From the masala chai place, the delicious fish preparation served with roti and chappathi, the typical Kerala style cooking. “Cake or cook”, is another stall to try.  Don’t forget to try the biryani too. The place sure does give the Indian packed street food corner.

Kailasa street food is open from 6 pm to 1 am from Tuesday to Sunday. The prices range from 180 to Rs 800.  Located at Colombo 3, Duplication Road and the landmark close to British Council.
