Uptown Glamour.

Uptown Glamour used to be down Palmyrah Avenu, but they've shifted to a glass front first floor place on Bambalapitiya's Galle Road.

Services

The salon offers up a whole range of services for women and men; from massages, facials, body wraps, manicures/pedicures, waxing, dressing, and of course the usual hair services like cuts, colours, and styling. Their prices aren't particularly cheap though, with spa pedicures ranging at about Rs. 2500, and massages at Rs. 5000+. We opted for a wash and blow dry, which cost Rs. 2000 but can go up to Rs. 2500 depending on how long your hair is.

Service

The staff doesn't speak great English, so finding the place and getting an appointment was a little difficult. We asked what time the place was closing, but never got a definite answer. Despite this, every staff member we met was very friendly and helpful, so that's a huge plus. My wash and blow dry didn't take too long, and the young man doing my hair was very careful not to burn me or de-tangle roughly.

They use great imported products like Schwarzkopf and V05, but perhaps not to their best advantage. My stylist sprayed my freshly-washed hair with mousse prior to blow drying it, which was a strange choice given that my hair is naturally very voluminous. Once dried, it had a stiff, residual effect which I didn't love. Apart from this, he did a great job and I'd probably go back if I needed a quick blow dry during working hours.

Ambience

The space is clean and bright, with a view of Galle Road, and plenty of generic black and white stock images of Paris and whatnot. The seating is comfortable, the A/C not too high, and the radio slightly annoying. The pedicure station and the nail art station are both in the main area without any partitions, so there isn't a lot of privacy.

Overall

This isn't a luxurious spot for pampering or a high-end experience, but they charge around the same price as Ramani's or the Nail Anatomy, which is a bit baffling. Despite this, the service is good and the space clean and neat, so it's worthwhile for a quick wash and dry or manicure if you're in the area.
