Ambistro's drew our attention simply by posting a bunch of good looking slices on their social media channels. Located down W. A. Silva Mawatha in Wellawatte, it's worth checking out, especially if you're in the mood for some pizza.
Food
Aside from pizzas, they do burgers, submarines and pasta etc. We opted for a half-by-half pizza at Rs. 1700, which was comprised of Fiery Mutton and Pepper Chicken toppings.
It was a good pizza, which they made using an electric oven. Fiery as promised, the Fiery Mutton Pizza had plenty of chewy mutton chunks to go with every bite. The generous use of mozzarella helped to take it down a notch while the sauce added a little tang.
Embedded with bits of colourful bell pepper, which enhanced the look and feel of the pizza, as well as the flavour, it's a good purchase. The crust was light, thin and crispy. We enjoyed it.
The Pepper Chicken side was simple, and yet, delicious. There was a light peppery touch on the meat, which we believe that they can improve, but other than that, it was all right.
We weren't the biggest fans of the Seer Cheer Burger (Rs. 460). There wasn't a patty in the burger – just a few chunks of grilled seer fish smothered with an abundance of sauce and mayo. Due to the heavy use of the aforementioned elements, we hardly got any fish flavours in here.
The side of fries that came with it was good. Simply dusted with salt, they were very crispy. Goes very well with their spicy-as-hell homemade sauce.
Ambistro's Strawberry Panna Cotta (Rs. 350) is a good dessert. There was a nice strawberry sauce layer on top, which was not only sweet, but also fruity, and it complemented the milky filling underneath. All the sweetness it has, comes from the sauce itself, which is another plus point.
Ambience & Service
They don't have the biggest space, but with what they have, they've done a wonderful job to make it cosy and comfy. The food took around 20 – 25 minutes to arrive, but we have no complaints regarding their service.
Conclusion
Ambistro's is a good place to drop by for your simple pizza cravings that need to be satisfied immediately.
