The AV Store is a new online shop for audio visual equipment. They have a lot of products for professionals – audio mixers, microphones, professional speakers – and a lot of entry level products as well – headphones, projectors, etc.
We’re not experts but we did some Googling on forums and the like and the quality seems good and the prices are competitive internationally. Their website is also far more attractive than the usual ecommerce lata pata. Everything is pretty clearly organized, priced and non-offensively designed.
Stuff
We recently ordered some headphones and a microphone from them (using a discount coupon they’d provided) and the stuff all arrived in good form. We’d advise them to package the stuff in a sealed box, and for bigger items it would be more advisable to collect from the store, but the online payment and processing system seems to just work.
The appeal of shopping online is that you can read reviews and compare prices before you decide on something. In our case we settled on some Sennheiser headphones and a condenser microphone, which we hope will make our videos better.
Prices
What we found surprising was that their prices were the same or cheaper than even Amazon. The headphones cost Rs. 3,500 ($28) compared to $26 on Amazon. The microphone cost Rs. 4,690 ($37), compared to $62 on Amazon.
Prices will change, but overall it seems that you get pretty good value for money, especially when crappy streetside headphones still cost about Rs. 2,000. If you’re a studio professional, it also seems easier to browse and comparison shop here for exactly what you want rather than going into a shop and taking the salesman’s word for it.
AVStore advertises with YAMU and it’s run by friends. If you need any help ask for Shamin or Cami.
